If demos are gone, and ea simply lets you download the full game for free, for 5 days before making you buy it, that would be good enough for me.
what's the ps4 consumer reaction been like to ea access only being available on xbox?
I don't think demo's are gone. NHL15 demo is coming to all consoles as per IGN (IGN Article) and we'll have to wait and see on the rest. EA would be pretty stupid to alienate it's largest install base of the two next gen consoles.
But at the end of the day if I had to choose between "Game Share", which I don't have to pay for, and "EA access", which you pay for but is fairly cheap. I would choose Game Share. The ability to pop in any multi-player game and play it with any of my friends is pretty damn awesome.
Plus I exchange games with a few buddies who don't game a lot. We traded Last of us around last year and they both had big issues getting past a certain part and if I could have just jumped onto their system and pushed them through it, it would have made things easier.
I have to admit though, I don't play Battlefield at all and I'm not a FIFA fan. So an EA service might not be my thing to begin with. I stick to NHL and 5 days of early access wouldn't really be a big enough incentive to pay 30 bucks a year for.
If the Tomb Raider game isn't a timed exclusive I'll be pretty saddened. That was one of my favourite games of the entire generation. The fact that they're wording things so oddly leads me to believe it's certainly a timed exclusive though. If they had full exclusivity they'd be screaming it from the mountain tops.
As expected, just a timed exclusive. Phil Spencer finally had to clarify to the press but is trying to hold back on the duration. I'm sure that will come out as time goes on anyhow.
All that hand waving, head dodging and press dodging. Why not say the usual "first on Xbox". I wonder if this was worth all the negative backlash.
"Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise."
Can you tell us how long the duration is?
"No. It's not because I'm trying to be a headfake on anybody. It's a deal between us and the partner. People ask me how much did we pay. There are certain things I'm just not going to talk about because it's a business deal between us and then. Obviously the deal does have a duration. I didn't buy the IP in perpetuity."
Angry gamers have directed many of their comments towards Square Enix, accusing the publisher of selling out and alienating their PlayStation and PC owning customers.
Yesterday, Microsoft dropped the first bomb of Gamescom 2014: that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox exclusive. Except, wait. It's not.
In other words, when they said yesterday that the next big Tomb Raider game is an Xbox exclusive, what they really meant is that it'll be out first on Xbox (both 360 and One), and then it'll come later to other platforms.
Compare this to the language used by developer Crystal Dynamics yesterday:
As you may have seen, we've just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox.
Or what Microsoft said in their own press release:
Led by the announcement that "Rise of the TombRaider" from Crystal Dynamics will launch in holiday 2015, exclusively on Xbox...
Butt hurt gamers is becoming one of my favourite things on the internet.
Heh, teasing aside I find it interesting watching the dynamics between developers, publisher, and fans. With the growth of the internet and social media I'd like to think that customers are more aware of products & services and are more likely to vote with their wallets so to speak for what they like or don't like.

That is what is so amusing to me, because I don't think they do. They bitch and moan and say they will never buy from such and such again and then they see a shiny new trailer and all is forgiven. Plus I do wonder how much knowledge the majority of gamers have when it comes to developers and publishers. The frothing at the mouth nerds on the internet probably don't represent most gamers IMO.

You might be right. On one hand you have the infamous COD steam group of people "boycotting" for the lack of dedicated servers. And then on launch day, look at what they are playing:
But then, you look at the massive difference in sales between the PS4 and Xbone that is only accelerating. They`re the same price now or the Xbone is ever cheaper but the difference is only increasing. Was it the PR and news that everybody heard about and the rubbed people the wrong way. People claimed that none of it mattered and that people would just flock to the Xbone and their old 360 friends list - but that hasn`t come to pass at all.
Is that a function of an informed customer base, maybe not. You might be right at the end of the day.
i'm so happy i made the pick for the xbox one, as ea access has been awesome. downloading madden 25 hadn't even finished yet i could get in and start playing the game with the default superbowl teams while the game continued to download.

I am almost certain there will be a time limit and you may need to pre-order the game to get access
I kind of wonder if this decision was driven by Uncharted.
Fall 2015 is the same launch window to expect for both titles and Tomb Raider was already being compared to Uncharted last gen.
Gives Microsoft a title they can tout as a competitor to Uncharted from a style perspective as an exclusive when Uncharted is scheduled to launch as a major PS4 exclusive.
Also allows Square-Enix to not have to go head to head with Uncharted in the same launch window for PS4 sales and they can launch in Q2 2016 with a definitive edition that won't fight for sales with Uncharted for the treasure hunting, 3rd person, action niche.

Tomb raider is a good game that doesn't sell well and usually ends up in bargain bins
now its coming out a little early on xbox its a system seller, Microsoft buying "exclusives" because they can't make their own
PS4 owners will be playing uncharted anyway, I own all systems and I know I will
LOL some of you are such fanboys. If it was the other way around and Tomb Raider was PS4 exclusive you know you would never have posted the bargain bin comment. You have all the systems so why be so bitter?

The most recent one sold over 3.4 million and was one of the top selling games of 2013. It wasn't GTA or COD but it was a pretty decent re-boot.
Which is why I was trying to look at it more from Square-Enix perspective. They had to see some type of benefit from being a limited time exclusive (outside of Microsoft just throwing money at them).

Square-Enix just seems either to be wacky or just stupid sometimes. They had totally crazy expectations for the original Tomb Raider reboot and they called the game a flop when it didn't meet those expectations.
They even know that 70% of the sales of the Tomb Raider Definitive edition were from the PS4 versus the Xbone (close to 2.5:1 ratio). And that even before the PS4 had their large 2:1 console advantage, probably back around 1.5:1 maybe?
So I guess they'll take the wad of cash up front to avoid actually selling the game to most of their previous customers and fan base. But they'll still be shocked that the game didn't sell to their lofty expectations.
It's interesting how Microsoft has completely lost the narrative again. It's not "hey, look we have this great timed exclusive and we're supporting this developer", it's a meltdown of the fanbase hurling crap at Crystal, SE and Microsoft.
Let's be honest though, they'll quickly put out the "Re-Rising" Tomb Raider edition on the more powerful platform(s) anyhow be it PC or PS4.

lol pot calling the kettle black? everything you post is pro xbox that image you posted above is major fanboyism...and I said Tomb Raider was a GOOD game but ends up in the bargain bin
