I agree when it comes to multiplayer maps and stuff like that, but if it's a large story based expansion I think it's fair to charge for it. I love stuff like that (think Skyrim: Dragonborn, or the Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare expansion).

That is not always true. Look at what Gearbox did with Borderlands 2. They made DLC's for a year and a half after the game came out. The bigger ones added 5-12 hours of additional gameplay. These weren't parts of the game left out. They finished the game and then started working on these. Plus you don't have buy them. Borderlands 2 was a complete game without the DLC.

Some visualization from Neogaf of the "THUNDERDOME!" (at least for consoles). Note that the numbers are "shipped to retailers", only the PS4 numbers are actual sales to customers. You could argue that the PS4 is close or still ahead of the Wii as a result. But it will fall behind if it doesn't pick up over the holidays.

The Xbone has really flat lined after the 2013 holiday season, should be some pick up as we trickle into the 2104 holiday season.

Have to wonder how much better PS4 would be doing if there had been consoles available before Christmas last year.

Nothing will match the Wii IMO.

It was a perfect storm for that console. Cheap price point, widely known game series (Mario, etc), plus a system that appealed to casual gamers due to the "fitness" and "social" aspects.

I think it's success and hype will actually sour some casual gamers from buying another gaming console. I wonder how many purchased it, used it for a couple months, and then never touched it again. Personally I know a large group of people that did exactly that.

If the Tomb Raider game isn't a timed exclusive I'll be pretty saddened. That was one of my favourite games of the entire generation. The fact that they're wording things so oddly leads me to believe it's certainly a timed exclusive though. If they had full exclusivity they'd be screaming it from the mountain tops.

Yeah, Wii Fit never ended up being what people thought it would be, and the Bowling game on Wii Sports only entertained people for so long. At least I know that if my Wii dies, I will have plenty of used ones I can buy for cheap. I bought lots of games on the Virtual Console so I know I will use it for a long time.

Just be aware that Nintendo has a terrible online account system. I've seen tons of horror stories. If your Wii does die, I would be surprised if you need to contact Nintendo who will likely need something like the serial number and just give you all the original funds back and you'd have to repurchase everything again on the new system.

Not sure if they have improved that system yet.

I really enjoyed the sports games on wii but I felt the replay value on the other games were non existent. Once I beat a game there was nothing to bring me back and multipler online was a joke in games that did have it.
Wii is exactly as described, fun for a few months then a dust collector. When I sold mine I had 120+ games and had played maybe 10-15 more than once.

Tiger woods however was beauty, loved that game even tho you could just flick your wrist from laying on the couch standing up and doing the full swing was great for groups of people.

Yeah, that is what a lot of the gaming community is taking from it. The backlash has been pretty hefty for it, I wonder if the amount of money was worth it. Similar to Titanfall, twitter and background noise seems to indicate the developers didn't have much clue or input on the deal the publishers cooked up with Microsoft.

My first Wii had the video card crap out (artifacts all over the screen). I paid Nintendo to fix it and I had to re-download everything from WiiWare and Virtual console that I didn't have on my SD Card. It was no problem to log back in to the Shop channel and re-download things though.

The biggest loss was my Smash Bros Brawl save file. For whatever reason that particular game they restrict from putting the save file on the SD Card.

Are xbox One sales expected to jump significantly with the price drop?
I know I bought one just after the price drop, at the new price, although it was more due to my 360 finally dying.
I just started playing Titanfall a few days ago, and it seems like there are a lot of 1st prestige (generation) players just starting at the same time I am. It would be weird to see so many new players pick up an older game at the same time I would think, if not spurred on by the purchase of a new console.

I remember playing it with ya'll and force of habit from playing real golf I ran my foot over to flatten out my divot... Had to make the conscious decision to swing and sit. It was tough man lol

NPD numbers didn't show much of any increase at all with a price drop and Titanfall coming out. Then again, Microsoft isn't saying all that much about Xbone sales any more so we can't be sure. And when they do, they are just "Xbox family" or "shipped to retailer" numbers.

Quantum Break looks fantastic. Very creative use of time manipulation.

I think XB1 sales will pick up in the fall as Microsoft has a better exclusive lineup and may even outsell it for a month or two but I don't think it's going to surpass the PS4 in overall sales any time soon if ever worldwide. It will probably overtake the PS4 in North America over time like last gen but that's about it.

i'm so happy i made the pick for the xbox one, as ea access has been awesome. downloading madden 25 hadn't even finished yet i could get in and start playing the game with the default superbowl teams while the game continued to download.

If demos are gone, and ea simply lets you download the full game for free, for 5 days before making you buy it, that would be good enough for me.

what's the ps4 consumer reaction been like to ea access only being available on xbox?

Disappointed in that Sony decided to make the decision for its consumers by rejecting EA Access on Playstation.

So this Tomb Raider exclusivity to Xbox One for Holiday '15 I guess puts the pressure on Crystal Dynamics to make sure it comes out on time. ie. no delays which I would have put money on happening before this announcement. Hopefully development goes well and corners don't get cut and doesn't lack polish.
