Those aren't cut scenes. Those clips are taken from in game, just using a cinematic camera angle. How boring of a trailer would it be if they just showed somebody casually playing?

They've showed tons of cinematic stuff, now I want to see how it looks during gameplay.

They did it for some of the NHL 14 trailers. We haven't seen anything like this for NHL 15 yet.

I see what you're saying, but I think they are keeping it more under wraps because it's the first game on next gen and it will look substantially different then previous games. Where as the difference in appearance from 13 to 14 was minimal.

Either way we are getting a pre release demo so you will get to see it and try it out before you buy it.

Or they're keeping it under wraps because it won't look substantially different from the previous generation games. If it looks amazing in play, I don't know why they wouldn't show it to generate more excitement.

There hasn't been any real gameplay shown. A few stylized, highly zoomed in, slow motion plays, even if captured from within the game, is not indicitive of the gameplay experience. These are carefully selected and crafted marketing trailers, it does nothing to show the viewer the overall flow of the game and how it will play out when people have controllers in their hands and are playing a traditional top down view.

But I will say, presentation looks slick and I'm glad there is a demo.

The trailers are gameplay. Just not the camera angle your looking for.

Not everyone plays the same camera angle so EA showing a broadcast or zoom 3 camera for a trailer doesn't make much sense. Of course they are going to use the be a pro camera and the replay cameras because those look the best, how often do you see games show trailers of the highest most zoomed out camera angles.

FIFA, Madden, NBA2K, The Show etc all have trailers the exact same. How come when it's a NHL game they have to be hiding something but when it's another franchise there is no issue?

There's no reason EA can't do a video showing some raw gameplay instead of a few zoomed in, slow motion replays. I want to see how the new features look in the context of a full game. Tons of developers do it, it's far better than a cinematic trailer because it shows what we will actually experience.

People can be so picky. What's the difference between waiting a few weeks for the demo to see how the game looks and feels compared to seeing a boring trailer now? You get to see it regardless before you need to buy it. I don't know, maybe I'm in the minority here for enjoying a cinematic trailer opposed to a gameplay clip.

I understand the need for a cinematic trailer. But when they're explaining new features (like the skillstick or physics trailers) I want to see some gameplay mixed in with the cinematics (like the NHL 14 trailer I posted a few posts up).

You're right though, at least there's a demo so we do get to see it before release. That's all that matters.

The thing with showing a classing "broadcast" or top down view in the gameplay trailer as it really does nothing to showcase the details of what it is they've been working on.

It's zoomed out, so you can assume it's going to be moderately similar to other games. I don't think anybody has looked at the zoomed out view of NHL during a faceoff, FIFA during kickoff, or Madden during the snap and thought "Wow!" because quite frankly, the details are a bit lost in those instances.

It's going to look better of course, but it's not a very captivating view, so why would they show off all the work they put into the details with a view that doesn't showcase the details? You know what it's going to look like.

Exacty. Its all about context. Showing a close up of a puck on edge gives me, as a player, absolutely zero insight into how that affects the overall flow of the game or how it'll impact my passes or shots. Showing close ups of players celebrating shows me no overall indication of how the AI used positional intelligence to setup the powerplay and score. It's a very shallow look at any of the real gameplay that most of us care about.

There's nothing wrong with some cinematic trailers but there's very little there that matches the true player experience. Show off 30 seconds of sustained gameplay and lets see how these features all stack up together as a cohesive representation of hockey, where two teams are all interacting within the confines of the same game, going after the same puck, having to defend and attack.

this. 100% this.

we all know the game is going to look better. we could tell that the moment they started releasing screens of the arenas. however, what we have been told for the last 4 or 5 years by fans and the ea team is to not expect major gameplay improvements because we were at the limits of what the last generation of consoles could manage.

so now, after taking a year off of the new consoles unlike some of the more popular EA games, many of us are expecting some legitimate improvements in things like AI intelligence, puck physics, etc. I don't care how cool the pre-canned intro video is because after the first day i hit X to get through it as fast as possible. but what I DO care about is whether or not sticks will still just magically go through things like the puck, other players, and the goal.

so I fail to understand why people wanting to see some actual gameplay are being mocked as crazies. time after time, we see people rationally and calmly wish for a better flow of information about the upcoming game. yet then they are just trolled by the same EA apologists over and over and over. (and sorry if i stooped to their level right there by calling them apologists and trolls, but i was on a roll!)

additionally, the reason why the flow of information is important to many of us is that for many NHL is the main reason we have a console. the reason i bought a ps3 many years back was that they stopped releasing nhl on PC. and i have yet to purchase a new console and was hoping that NHL would finally be a better game this year and would be my reason. now sure, i can just wait until after the game comes out and get opinions, but is it so much to ask that a game publisher would want to promote the awesome new features of their game?

I would think if the demo is 2 weeks out, they're likely letting people play it at Gamescom right now. Usually that seems to be the first way we a video of sustained gameplay from more traditional camera angles.

They let people play it at E3. Some videos ended up on Youtube be EA had them all removed almost immediately.

I agree with you to a point. I would like to see gameplay footage, but at the same time a lot of the things they are promoting need to be experienced.

Like you though, my wish is live sticks. I don't care if I lose the puck everytime I try to figure skate through everyone, I'll learn to pass to the point... Unless the dman rage quits before I get a chance too, then I'll throw it to the corner

Being the internet though, if they did show a top down distance view everyone would be bitching and complaining about how it looks the same, and then will come out the defamatory comments aimed towards the developers. Just like now, people are speculating that they are hiding something, or the game isn't finished, or there are going to be things missing because of the lack of information... it's a no win situation IMO... that being said, I would like to see some basic gameplay footage, would really like to see the 12 man collision physics, and how that will make the game "tougher" to play. Will bigger teams get more of an advantage in the corners, etc. Stuff like that.

It's funny how many PS3/Xbox 360 users think all the new features are going to be on the old consoles. I can't wait to see them freak out when their version of the game is identical to NHL 14 (other than commentary).

Maybe because of this?

Just bugging you of course, you're not crazy, but in what world do you think promotional footage of the game would show you any potential problems or glitches?

It's promotional footage. It's going to show you the absolute best of the game.

Furthermore, don't the videos posted all show you close up shots of the stick work and player interactions? It is gameplay. You're asking for gameplay, you're being shown gameplay, where is the disconnect?

If you're specifically looking for EA to promote their product by highlighting some of the issues, well, maybe that IS crazy.

I might be ok with that. If the PS4 15 version isn't much better for gameplay than NHL14 I might just stick with the PS3 as just the new broadcast crew and production will make the game more enjoyable.

they keep telling us they've improved the AI, but my teammates still go offside in an unrealistic way, my defenders go for a line change during a breakaway and my wingers all break out on the same wing.

I want to see video of 3 forwards breaking into the zone cohesively.

Or exiting the zone cohesively.
