I understand that Res.
But wouldn't it be a good rule of thumb to leave a spot between, if possible?
Hey, I could go buy a handicapped sign and be done with it. Good parking, wide stalls. Problem solved, right?
But the cost would be that I would then be taking a spot that I think others are more likely to need.
I just see this issue as common courtesy.

As a rule, people park where most convenient for them. For some, that means as close to the door as possible. For others, that means away from everyone else. Sometimes, that may well mean right beside another car in a wide open lot. You can't really judge the reason for why someone parked next to you any more than they can judge the reason for why you were already there.

Not sure how that means anything to the post I made. My car or others. My only comment was it's was easier and quicker to swing into a medium back spot when able. If you are healthy or somewhat healthy.
Drive thrus and DT banks have made everyone thing that closer spot is better. More often than not, it isn't. And Jebus, use your legs a bit. No wonder your so fat!

I get what you're saying, but common courtesy is please, thank you, holding the door if someone is right there, not parking in the stalls for pregnant people, etc.
As nice as the thought is, expecting people to avoid parking in certain areas of a parking lot because of the 1/100 guys that MIGHT have a bum knee or are a "car guy" is not a fair ask.
It's the parking lot. You can park wherever you'd like, but you should also expect that others are going to park wherever they like. There is no social construct or unwritten rules that society follows. Tiny groups make up their own, but it's not relevant to most of the population of drivers.
If you don't want someone parking beside you, why not take up two spots? It's a dick move, but at least you'll be responsible for the well being of your vehicle/person, not putting it in the hands of others.

Sure I can, it doesn't upset me when someone does this, but I definitely judge them. I really don't care one way or the other, none of my vehicles are that nice, but what possible, legit reason could there be to park right beside a car that's sitting all alone with dozens of empty spots around it?
Not talking about a busy lot, that's fair game, but I've scratched my head a few times when parking my truck in the middle of a sea of empty parking spaces and had someone pull into the one spot right next to me - remember, empty parking lot.

I turn over.
3:26 AM.
Another cold night. Haunted by my thoughts.
Who?
Who is judging me silently?
Parking.
Parking is my curse.

I found the solution.
Step 1. Bring a couple of warning cones and put them on each side of your car
Step 2. Paste a big sign that says "DANGER! EBOLA!"
Step 3. Buy groceries in peace.

Things become common because it does become the norm. Again, we are talking about the lone vehicle surrounded by tons of options. Why NOT be thoughtful? That is what I don't get.

Likely higher than that, especially when you add in the "close" parkers. I was in a Canadian Tire lot and parked at least a dozen stalls from anyone else. Came back to find a 3/4 ton van parked "legally" beside me, but there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to open the door even to just squeeze in. Had to wait as I wasn't climbing over the console.
It just makes no sense to me. Simply a thoughtless act.

So bringing up this issue isn't thought provoking enough to perhaps changes peoples "norm" on this issue to the point that it does become a habit? How is there any downside to that?

Because that is a dick move. If the lot gets busy and people park beside me, fine. That is absolutely reasonable.
Again, this is just my two cents. I will continue to be courteous to other parkers in this manner as I think it is a good habit.

Let me draw you a terrible MSPaint picture to illustrate his point. If I were to enter this parking lot, I'd park immediately next to the "car guy" every time even though other spaces are available because it's the most convenient spot to guide my vehicle straight into a stall. It really is as simple as that. I'm not "trolling" anyone or "being disrespectful to car guys" or any other such nonsense. If you attribute even 1% of my decision-making process when choosing that spot to personal malice against you, you're being paranoid.

I park at the back of the lot where the car guys park because I have a couple of little careless door dingers with me.
So when the lot is pretty full and the car guys park beside me thinking I am one of 'them' they are in fact parking beside the scourge of the parking lot.
Not to make you over-think things the next time or anything. You just never know who your enemy is.

If you can't guide you car into a parking spot without the help of another car being there you shouldn't be driving. Knowing where the corners and sides of you car is a basic driving skill. If this is really the justification that you can't park between the lines you are the cause of the WRGMG thread and a struggler.
Regardless of all the other discussion in this thread if the above is your real logic, get driver training, go out and practice in parking lots, do something to improve your driving for all of us because you are a danger on the road. It should not be easier to park beside someone then it is to park with no cars around.

Who's using the other car as a guide? I'm just lazy.
It's easier (and lazier) to drive straight than to turn.

It has nothing to do with driving skill. I'm perfectly capable of navigating a parking lot, thank you very much. I choose that spot solely because I'm lazy and it's easier and more convenient to drive straight into the stall.

The two yellow arrows are where you enter and exit the parking lot. You are coming into it going straight. It's easier to continue to drive straight into the spot beside the red rectangle. Even if the red rectangle wasn't there, and it's an open parking lot, that's still the spot he'd take.

Haha, you are really stretching to find a justification. If you want to be an inconsiderate ass, just own it.

What an age we live in, where parking next to someone is being inconsiderate.

Not you, just qualifying my point, as you did quote it.
EDIT: I never mentioned any car beside me, so responding to me with that qualifier is probably what got us confused. Like a urinal I'll try to leave a one space gap if I can, which I often can because I park near the back, but if I can't, I sure don't worry about it.
I don't get this whole car guy no car guy talk right now to be honest.

So if I understand...
According to Car Guys and the small section of the population with medical issues that refuse to get a handicap pass, people who park beside them are some combination of:
- Disrespectful
- Dangerous
- Improperly trained
- Weird
- Void of human decency
- Breaking unwritten rules
- Inconsiderate
And according to all those that park close to Car Guys and the small section of the population with medical issues that refuse to get a handicap pass, they are guilty of:
- Parking
As much as I think the minority wants to make this a thing, it's not a thing. It's about the social equivalent of getting upset when someone is walking slower than you in the mall. There is nothing wrong with believing in it and following those rules though, just... don't assume anyone else is thinking like you.
I think we can all agree that slamming your door into someone's car is a dick thing to do. That's about it.

I like to think about it like a gym locker room. If you show up at the gym, get a locker and fill it with your stuff and when you come back from your workout some other ahole has gone and put his stuff in the locker right beside yours. Almost like he didn't even notice that you had a lock on yours and others around didnt. Almost like he didn't even care where he put his clothes and thus cares even less about where other people have put theirs. Almost like it was the first locker he saw and went for it. But of course he did notice all these things and used the locker next to you just to get under the skin of the guy that wants the whole row of lockers to himself because he has a $200 shirt in there.
Inconsiderate doosh.

I'm honestly unsure who you're describing as the "inconsiderate doosh" in this scenario. Is it the second guy who had the gall to put his stuff in a locker next to someone else (the NERVE of some people!) or the first guy who wanted an entire row of lockers all to himself because he has a $200 shirt?
