Perhaps Ms Smith could also benefit from some time in the private sector, seeing as she has none herself......

Sure she does. She was director at CFIB, and worked for the Calgary Herald.

"Former MPs Preston Manning, Lee Morrison and Werner Schmidt, who were elected in 1993, are believed to be the only three original Reformers who opted out of receiving a parliamentary pension."

Unfortunately you can't use that article. Anders wasn't elected until 1997 so the "who were elected in 1993" qualifier stands. Stephen Harper actually was the Calgary West MP in the 1993 election.

The clown comment is still valid.

Sources say that controversial Member of Parliament Rob Anders is preparing to run for the federal Conservative nomination in new rural Bow River riding south east of Calgary. The six-term MP has represented Calgary-West since 1997 but lost a heated Conservative nomination contest in the new Calgary-Signal Hill riding to former Progressive Conservative MLA Ron Liepert.

I don't understand this. So many posters here, in the past, have implied that Anders was a made man in the CPC and thus was under the protection of Godfather Harper, thus the party bosses would never allow this to happen.

Must be a miracle I guess.... couldn't possibly be democracy in action... it is the CPC we're talking about after all.

Are you aware of the history of CPC nomination battles (or lack thereof) in Calgary-West? The only reason CPC members were able to get rid of Anders this time is because his former riding ceased to exist because of a redistribution of seats in parliament.

National Post has now picked up on the story. Seems it is true.

“I really feel that [Bow River] is the Alberta I moved to in the 1980s,” he said.
Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi “certainly” wouldn't get elected in the new Bow River riding, Rob Anders says.
“It’s a place with more trucks, and it certainly wouldn’t have elected someone like [Calgary mayor] Naheed Nenshi, or other liberals pretending to be Conservatives these days. I feel a real connection.”

The redistribution of ridings has nothing to do with it. The same board is on Signal Hill as was on Calgary-West. It has more to do with the CPC's rules during minority government situations in which incumbents do not face nominations very easily because it is difficult to determine when the next election may be.

Also don't forget that before they won minority in 2006, Anders actually won several very hotly contested open nominations. Credit where credit is due.

Well, he is good at the campaigning. And the politicking if you will. He's just a horrible politician. And I'd feel safe in saying a horrible man as well.

Well, the implied racism in his comment about Nenshi not being electable in that riding certainly points to the argument that he is a horrible man.

Well. It can be argued CP had a small part in the initial defeat. But it's the battle and not the war! Are we willing to see this through?!

Wow. He seems he like he has a gigantic tw*t fit for a head butt from a rhinoceros.

The way he worded that made it sound like this Bow River riding is a microcosm of everything wrong with Alberta. The "embarrassing" Alberta. I guess he would be a good fit.
