Wow. Gotta say Im surprised at how big he lost. Guess people felt it was time for a change.
People wanted change for a long time. It was Harper who was blocking any opposition at every point. Can't wait for Anders to unleash the dirt now that his muzzle is off.
Nice to see Liepert tell Kenney off too.
Quote:
“Quite frankly I think Minister Kenney should mind his own business. He should go into his own riding and try and get re-elected in his own riding and quit monkeying around at other nominations...anywhere in this province,” said Liepert, who made it abundantly clear that he was angry at the interference.
“You’re damn right I am. Why? Because it’s none of his business.”
Liepert, 64, who held the health, energy and finance portfolios as a member of the Alberta legislature before opting not to run in the 2012 election, has never been afraid to speak his mind.
He added that he wasn’t worried about any repercussions for his criticism of Kenney.
“I don’t care. It might and I’m quite prepared do deal with it if it does,” he said.
I"m sure it won't be for long. The Wild Rose awaits him.
Highly unlikely. The last thing the Wildrose needs is an idiot with a massive tendency to say stupid things. Rob's future is at SunTV or writing opinion columns for the Sun. I also am not convinced he is done, too much support from too many prominent CPCers, who you'd think wouldn't want such an embarrassing member in their party. I can see him being parachuted to safety somewhere else.
Congrats to the voters of Signal Hill for choosing to not be humiliated anymore. That said this should confirm to the Liberals and NDP to not even bother running candidates in this city, and most of this province. Anders never got below 51% support in a general, and the first chance they got to replace him but without voting against the CPC, they did so and it sounds like it wasn't even close. This is still stone cold lock CPC territory.

Does anyone know how much he lost by? I was under the impression that it was a lot closer that it should have been (assuming recounts caused the delay in releasing the results, etc.)
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's out. But I hope that it was decisive and by a large margin.
The only number that's out there is that there were 3,200 eligible voters and something like 2,400 showed up. 75% turnout for a nomination vote is pretty huge, and likely indicates strong dissatisfaction with the incumbent. I wouldn't be surprised if Anders lost by 15-20%.

He also has NOT opted in to the program, meaning he will not receive that pension.
I've heard otherwise but not reliably, so you could be right. If you're confusing with what he did with his pension to be the same as what Harper did, you'd be wrong. Harper would have a pension valued at 6 something million had he opted in, instead its 5 million something. Anders would be 4 million something but instead it is 3 million something. What they opted out of changed many years ago and now its "mandatory", though they have the right to opt in retroactively.

Friend, Danielle Smith tells him to try the private sector!
But Smith — who has known Anders since they were University of Calgary students — made clear she was not planning on recruiting him for a provincial run. “I think Rob Anders has had a very long career in public service. I think the electors of his riding spoke pretty loud and clearly and I think he’d probably benefit from taking some time in the private sector,” she said in response to a reporter’s question at the legislature. “That would be my advice to him, is that probably after 17 years serving the public, he should probably do something else for a while.”
