why PEK? UA just recently opened up a direct CTU to SFO route - 4 or 5 days/week - Chengdu is a great point to point destination and has just as good domestic china connections as Beijing?
YYC - CTU would be a perfect option

Yes, CTU is doing well... but UA already has an extensive Asian network from SFO. CTU is not the #2 destination to Asia you serve when your only existing flight is a single 763 to NRT. More importantly, we have heard directly from AC that they are seeking a viable PEK slot for YYC .
Also, with the amount of Chinese purchases of Canadian companies, it would make more sense for PEK, since most of those purchases are made with ties to Chinese Goverment.
