I don't agree with this. He just signed a new 4 year deal and has limited NMC. He can play anywhere in the lineup including against opposition's best line, or in a limited role on the 4th line (ie. in three years if we had Bennett, Monahan, Backlund/whoever as top 3 C). Seems to be really well liked, involved in the community and is an experienced leader for the team.
But what do I know.

My two cents:
There are two arguments regarding Glencross I keep hearing.
1. He keeps getting injured.
2. He takes a roster spot away from a younger player.
Call me crazy, but honestly having a player that is frequently injured is not a horrible thing to have with a youth movement like the one we have here. We have so many young players that look to push their way into the lineup with injury call-ups, that I don't mind having a decent player around who's risk is he can be injured. Actually, I think I would prefer it.

Problem with this is glencross is streaky. When he gets hot then you have the sam gagner contract issue.

Glencross could fetch a 1st rd pick at the trade deadline. I won't mind seeing him moved for a 1st roud pick in a deep draft. I know he has a NTC, but I think he would waive to go to a contender.

I would say it's very unlikely the Flames could get a 1st rounder for him, even if he had a career year. After last trade deadline I would be happy with a 2nd rounder, but would take a 3rd rounder.

With the exception of specific players or a good season, everyone is streaky. While it would be great to see all the Flames replicate Backlund's effort from November onwards last year, sometimes it just doesn't happen. That's why you play a team game where hopefully everybody is able to contribute at any time.

Every 20-25 goal scorer in the history of the NHL is streaky.
If they were more consistent, they would be a 40 goal scorer.

I think not signing him now is the best move they can make. He'll be the most inspired to play well because he's playing for a contract and if the Flames don't have him in the long term plans, they can try to trade him and his value will be great. If he craps the bed, they have a reason not to sign him. It sounds like he isn't giving a home town discount so why not wait. Personally, I think he has the most value to the Flames if he's on another team.

Personally, I don't think Glencross is streaky. A guy like Stempniak is streaky, he would score in bunches and then go a while with nothing but you would always know he was out there. Glencross plays great and then plays bad. Its not like during that time he's playing awesome and not scoring, he's usually not playing well when he's not scoring and during that time he looks lazy and takes bad penalties.
I think he's more uninspired at times than streaky.

With Klimchuck, Reinhart, Granlund, JG, and Baertschi potential in the mix as left wingers, I would wait to see what Byron and Raymond bring before extending Glencross. He could be the odd man out and his style of play could be replaced by Bouma

Last time I checked, Bouma doesn't score 20 goals a season and Glencross isn't a 4th liner.

Glencross started on a 4th line. When did he start scoring 20 goals?

I think that's more the Edmonton Oilers issue - Giving knee jerk contracts in reactions to small sample sizes of good play (or in Oilers terms: scoring points because points=good play).
"Well, he played like an 8 million dollar player for 30 games. If we give him 7 years and 6 mil per year, it will be a steal if/when he can be that player full time!"
"Brilliant KLowe!"
The problem is very few players play at that level for that long. But it's actually a edmonton-science fact that if you are picked in the top-5 in any given draft, you are a superstar so...

That will depend on his performance this year. If he doesn't play as well as he should, a contending team would probably only give their 2nd (50's OA) and maybe a prospect.

Really? When a guy like Paul Gaustad can get you a first round pick at the deadline, it's not that far fetched.
