Lots of guys weren't willing to let him be something other than the 1st line player we hoped we had when drafted. Patience was shown, Backlund was allowed to develop and become a good solid two way option.

Backlund is a good example of patience. Didn't come into his own until 24. Doesn't matter if he played two years after being drafted. I hope you're not being grating on purpose. You're a little over top when it comes to Jankowski, I'm not the only one who sees it.

I understand one of the rare qualities he has for someone his size is great foot speed to go with great hands. A 6'3" center who is fast and has great hands? We should all be willing to be patient if it takes a few years to translate that into an NHLer.
And after 6-7 years in the Flames organization he will have to clear waivers to be sent down and maybe the Leafs will get him for a 4th round pick to complete the Colborne trade.

It is really really important in a cap league to have guys on ELC playing well.... not in the AHL.

Let the other teams work with the projects and then step in a get them when they are really close to being able to actually contribute at the NHL level.

I'm over the top? I rarely mention Jankowski even when he's been brought up by others, but if I do even jokingly, I'm sure to see you come running to his defence. You're becoming obsessive.

This time Bingo brought him up with a quote wondering if he'd be signed after his college career was over. Nothing written in stone, but I think at this time, it's a valid future possibility.

When does Backlund become a UFA?

What exactly is the end game here for you guys complaining about Jankowski? I never see him being talked about as a future core player here. I never see him high up in posters ranking our future line up. Hell, we're on prospect #7 and he has less then 5% of the popular vote. All I see here is some people saying we should wait and see what will happen over the next two years before writing him off as a bust. Most of CP has a realistic view of the risk/reward scenario this guys in, so who is it that you're trying so hard to convince they think way too highly of him?

You don't actually believe that, do you?

And obsessive? He's definitely my favourite prospect to talk about. His unique draft entry, he's long term projection and his raw skill make him fun to follow. He's also a treat to watch play, super talented and thinks the game at a high level. Also seems like a good kid, every interview I've seen he seems to "get it". Genuine personality and a decent person. Like I've said numberous times, I really find it hard to peg where he'll end up, but I find it hard not to root for him.

Going with Ferland, but hope his 17 pts in 12 games before getting injured is real and no fluke. He seemed to have awesome chemistry with Granlund before his injury and Conroy had mentioned in interviews that Ferland would have been called up had it not been for his injury. Loved Wotherspoon last year as well with Smid when he came up.

Where was the personal attack?

You set the tone by brushing aside my remarks as gibberish, and claiming I thought it was tough to find a comparison for Jankowski because I didn't like the comparables out there.

In telling me I was over the top.

Your post was full of contradictions and said that I didn't like Colborne. Where you got that from, I have no idea thus gibberish.

I've heard 3rd round Oiler pick Jujhar Khaira is a comparison in some eyes.

That's not true, stop right there. Go back and read the post.

You compared him to Joe Colborne, you suggested I thought it was difficult to find comparables for Jankowski because I didn't like the ones you put out there (Colborne) I replied asking what's wrong with Colborne, why wouldn't I like that comparison. I never once said you didn't like Colborne.

So you should compare Knight's 1st year stats to Jankowski's 2nd:
Knight had 13 points in 37 games (6G + 7A), Jankowski had 25 points in 39 games (13 goals and 12 assists).

Knight became a PPG player during his 20, 21, and 22 year old seasons. It will be interesting to see what Jankowski does this year entering his 20 year old season.
Also, they played for two very different teams.

In 2010-11, UND was a high-powered offensive team. UND had five players with at least 40 points that season. Knight was second on the team in total points and fourth on the team in points per game. He was fifth in goals scored.

Providence plays a strong defensive game. Last season, Providence had no players with at least 40 points. Jankowski was third on the team in total points and third in points per game. He was second in goals scored.

Even though his points per game were significantly lower, Jankowski's performance relative to his team was at least even with and arguably slightly better than Knight's was in their sophomore seasons (that's not even accounting for the fact that Jankowski was a year younger as a sophomore).

Keep in mind that Jankowski will probably get second line minutes (behind Mauermann) again this season, and it won't be until his senior year that he finally gets the opportunity to carry the offense for Providence.

If he did get top line minutes I could see him producing at a point per game pace but I think he'll fall short of that mark, which would still be very good.

This is the year. He entered college very young and new to his size. Second year he was learning the Center position and was still pretty young. Lots of mitigating factors. This year not so much - time for him to crank it up. Still might not hit ppg at his defence minded school but let's see clear progression and him starting to assert his will and size.

I like Jankowski. The PC coaching staff has focused on mechanics and the two-way game with him because they seem to have confidence in his scoring ability. He'll be a much more well-rounded player when he turns pro than otherwise.

Nate Leaman seems to love the kid and leans on him heavily in late game situations.

Not that today's prospect pool means too much when looking toward the future lineup, but I doubt see where he fits.

Surely they could give him a more prominent role this year. Mauermann is a senior though, so I'm certain they will give him the 1st pp, etc.

Wotherspoon, his play with the Flames was akin to Granlunds and ended too soon. Both players would have cemented high poll rankings I feel if they'd have stayed healthy.

After Wotherspoon gets locked in, the next batch of voting goes to Ortio. Then I get confused how to vote the rest, just so close and so darned deep..

It's almost impossible to find a comparison for Jankowski, someone who made the leap from Canadian High School hockey to NCAA leap.
