I can't see this under 50k in Canada. That being said, if they can keep it under 40 I'll be in line to buy one. I do a lot of city driving in my personal vehicle for business, and this car would be unbelievable for that purpose.

It is called a smart grid, but we don't have one in Alberta. Basically, the wholesale cost of electricity is higher during peak times, and lower during the middle of the night. However, since your electric meter only reads one number, you pay an average price for all your usage. Since most people's pattern is about the same, it works out reasonably fairly.

To implement smart metering, the biggest hurdle is everyone would need a new electric meter, which is a huge cost to overcome. We don't have this in Alberta yet, but some places do. It would be a huge advantage to the electrical grid if a bunch of batteries were used in super peak times to reduce load.

What do you think is more efficient? A power plant that a company makes direct profit off of its efficiency, or Joe Blow's 2002 2.0L Honda Civic with a check engine light on?

What do you think is a more dangerous polluter, a coal power plant with a sophisticated scrubbing system in a rural area, or cars with 80% functioning catalytic converters exhausting 2m away from pedestrians?

I hope Tesla opens a Calgary dealer. I will be the first guy in line with an application. They are the future, and everyone will be playing catch up within 15 years.

I'm not even super concerned about the range; it's never going to be a long distance cruiser, but that's what my TDI is for. As a commuter/daily driver, it seems like an excellent

The tech will get to long distance at somepoint. It's pretty much inevitable.

Not really since two batteries (or twice as many batteries actually because each car has thousands of batteries, 7000 or so cells for the 85kWh I think it was) since you have to carry around and move all those batteries.

On the site's range calculator at the default settings the 60kWh Model S says 386km range, or 6km / kWh. The 85kWh Model S says 485km range, or 5km / kWh.

To be honest, I hope Tesla doesn't discount the cars for anyone, and cheapen the product/concept. They need to keep the cars high demand/high profit for at least the next 5 years for the big automakers top finally be tempted to jump on board the EV train.

For myself, I could do 95% of my driving in an EV, and would only need some dilapidated beater of an old SUV for the odd time I need to go to the mountains.

You don't need a SuperchargingStation with a Tesla . Its just faster. They have charger built on board. For regular outlets their is a either 110v or 230v connector.
