Except no one here gives a #### what Obama says at this time, because we're more concerned with the details of the event, not what talking heads are saying.

A military/air force type said on CNN he doesn't see how it's possible for a mistake. Simple access to Internet could've shown which flight it was, it was flying in a very busy commercial corridor, flying at an altitude/speed/trajectory that only a commercial airliner would and doesn't look like a military plane. He was simply at a loss how this mistake could've been made.

The thing is, you can't go back anymore, you have the means. It's also a threat to your own security and world security.

You said Obama needs to make a strong statement and grow some balls, you follow that up with telling us all the actions the US should take (sanctions, ect..). It was a simple connect the dots really. People then kept mentioning the need to gather information before acting and you kept ignoring them, this is the first time you agreed on the topic.
Are you trying to say now that all you were referring to when you made your strong statement comment was about his address to the media? Come on, do you REALLY think it matters to the rebels or Russia what Obama says at this time?
Take off the tinfoil hat, no one called you a racist and we don't think you are ignorant because you dislike Obama. We think you are ignorant because you aren't making any political sense.

Talking heads are the ones who set the tone though. A strong tone would send a message to Russia and their rebels, talk of potential action if things are proven out as it looks, talk about hard hitting sanctions, talk up pushing NATO to get involved etc. Tone is what I have a problem with at this moment, nothing more really.

Maybe...so I guess the US should start taking up a yearly "world security" tax/collection from all of the other countries in order to maintain world security? And if a country doesn't pay up, it doesn't get the benefit of US assistance?
I don't know what Canada's tax amount would be, but perhaps handing over the Provinces of B.C. and Alberta would be a good down payment.
You in for that?

Cap't, if my memory is correct, Ukraine was a leader in developing missile technology. Did they also have this BUK system?

Also saying heavy sanctions should be placed against Russia means what exactly? What kind of sanctions? Be specific. More to the point, how does imposing sanctions send a strong message? Issuing sanctions is the political way of wagging your finger at another country.

seriously lanny9 stop talking about what you feel Obama should do. Stern lectures, strong tone...rabble rabble rabble....
This event happened 3 hrs ago in Ukraine. Give it some time before the politicos get involved for christ sake. Even when two jets piled into the trade center on live TV a major statement wasn't given until that evening.
More information is needed, until then nobody cares what you think about Obama

Which sounds like the Americans have some intelligence pointing to this possibility.

Per wikipedia, the BUK system is operated by about a dozen countries, including both Russia and the Ukraine.

Mistakes happen.
One of the unfortunate side effects of having such powerful weapons; when a mistake is made, it can have terrifying consequences.

Of course I am making political sense, a strong statement is what the world is looking for from Obama. Like it or not he is the leader of the free world and as such he needs to act like one. It is not so much a message at this point to the rebels or Russia but to the rest of the world that the US will be there to lend a hand. The message to Russia would be that further sanctions will come if this was a Russian supplied missile system.
When you talk about connecting the dots, do you mean by putting words in my mouth? cause that is what is going on here. I did not say action right now!!
How many times do things have to point to Russian involvement before some will accept that they are covertly creating this situation? If you want to call me ignorant for being able to see that then so be it!

I agree, I'm just pointing out that there is really no way it was done by accident if done by someone who even kind of knew what they were doing. Clearly the only two possibilities are untrained people getting access to very complex weaponry in an irresponsible fashion, or intentional misdirection. I really don't believe the latter happened.
