Totally, feels great. I once made a cabby have to do that, which is like a bonus cherry on top.

On that note though, that turn-off is in serious need of an upgrade. It's kind of a joke that one of the biggest routes out of downtown is reduced to one lane.

I'm here. Late merging is a more efficient way of getting through traffic for everyone especially as truck traffic increases. You can go back through this thread and find links if you like.

You should use all available lane space and merge at the end of the lane as it ends. This is the most efficient way to use the road space.

A caveat though and I don't know if it applies in that location is that if the lane you are in exits rather than ends then you need to merge earlier so you don't block the traffic.

So if the lane ends then the merging driver is correct in using all available space. If a person is trying to bypass the line using an exit lane like at Southbound Crowchild and Memorial and try to cut in at the end by all means block them.

In this instance, the guy cutting in is trying to do so via a solid line, and stops all traffic behind him that is trying to continue going east on Memorial.

Iceland has a plague of people that never use their signal light, it drives me crazy as people just weave in and out of lanes without a care in the world.

Any normal situation though, I think I'm very generous and letting people in is the nice thing to do. Only one car a time though. Let's not get crazy.

I also think a lot of our lane-changing angst issues would be lessened if people waived more. People used to give a thank you wave in this city when someone let them in, or a sorry wave if they made a mistake. Now very few people wave at all. I'll forgive pretty much anything if there's a wave.
I am firmly in the camp of using all available space and effective merging which requires both parties to do it right.

However, Memorial to NB Deerfoot is a different scenario as it is a lane change from the left to the right and requires driving by about 1000 cars doing it right. I must admit to being that ######bag on occassion though. But I did wave.

I refuse to wait in that line to get on Northbound Deerfoot from Memorial, I will go to Barlow and back on to Memorial before I wait, Its less stressful and not much longer. That being said I will cut in after the lights if someone leaves a gap, I always feel like a ###### for a few seconds but I quickly get over it.

Edit: What pisses me off is the people that stop traffic in the second lane there waiting to try and squeeze in.

As am I, in most instances.

Part of the issues is that it's a massive bottleneck and ridiculously out of whack with what's necessary. Basically anyone going to Deerfoot out of downtown is reduced to one lane. It's bad enough during regular traffic, I can't imagine what it must be like in rush hour. It turns otherwise decent people into dickbags. But you're still a dickbag for doing it, and must be punished!

This is a wonderful opportunity for you and you should take advantage of it.

There has to be some books you always wanted to read. What about continuing education courses/books you could do during the day or personal development books you could be reading. Catch up on your network. Contact them and let them know you are looking. You could spend the whole day working your network.

Look at it as an opportunity and take full advantage of it. See how much extra crap you can stuff into the workday and you are getting paid to do your own thing. Double win.

All while looking for a new job too.

So here's the question- are there that many more cars going NB instead of SB? The reason I ask is the both have just 1 lane to get off Memorial, but SB doesn't backup unless somebody is trying to push their way into the NB exit lane. Going SB there isn't the option to get in at the last moment; so it just flows.

I really think the cause of the issue is that people push their way in at the end, which causes the slowdown, which means more people try to get in later, which backs it up further, and causes more people to try and get in later, etc.

There is no traffic light stopping the southbound exit

Well, the biggest thing is that SB doesn't have a stop light. It might be the same amount of traffic, but it never stops. NB has that light right before the turn-off.

Trying to do some of this, but on my phone it's tough. I work in I.T. and I know he can and most likely will monitor web sites I go to. I've always gone to CP and it's never been mentioned, but being on Linked In or job sites he will know what is what. Simply can't do it on the work computer. On my phone I can at least use the cell network so he can't track that. But a phone is only so useful. That 5" screen and a small KB make it tough. I have no excuse other than a sick day or a doctor appointment to get away for interviews as well. Just a tough situation all around.

Can you at least read? A book or on your phone.

Can't you just book a few on one day and take a vacation day?
