I think we could have gotten Henrique and the #30 pick and got Lemieux for Cammy, but the trade would have to happen now for it to make any sense...

I wasn't devastated then, and I really don't care now. Sometimes you just have to learn how to move on, eh?

Really bummed that Drouin trade never happened.

i was pretty bummed at the time. I didn't think Burke (or Treliving) would have him in the rebuild plans. But then they pushed hard to resign him.
So in hindsight, knowing that they wanted him back and were not getting what they felt was value in offers, it makes sense to hold on to him.

IMO Garth Snow ruined the deadline with him holding holding his cards to the very last minute in hopes of hitting a home run which held the Flames and Sabres hostage. He screwed over himself as well as the Flames as he had to accept a "take it or leave it" very poor return for Vanek over no return at all at the very end leaving the Flames in the exact same scenario with the teams that had Cammalleri 1B or 1C to Vanek. Burke chose to take no return over a junk deal. Teams in the future when it comes to dealing with Snow will know they can always rake him over the coals but they still know the Flames aren't going to give up assets for free. Also lets not forget Cammalleri was hot garbage for the majority of the season leading up to the deadline and caught fire after so we don't really know what his perceived value was as a rental at the deadline. It may have not been very high even without the Islanders botching things up.

With that extra third round pick we might have gotten, I think the rebuild would be over now

The Flames had a good thing going, despite the poor results in the standings.
I think Cammy was worth a late first or early second at the deadline, and for that price it would totally be worth moving him. But the Flames got stung by probably the worst deadline market for scoring wingers I can ever remember seeing.
And if the only offers on the table were late round picks, I don't think it was worth breaking up the chemistry the Flames had going.
Fans always overvalue picks, but a late round pick is worth about the $125 waiver wire fee (or whatever it is these days). Because you're more likely to snag a gem of a player off waivers than you are at 147th overall. Especially if you suck and are at the top of the waiver order.
The best thing the Flames had going last year was the hard-working corporate culture that was evident to everyone who saw them. I think Cammy was a big part of that, and I don't think it was worth breaking up that locker room for a throw-away lottery ticket of a draft pick.

Burke said he couldn't even get a 3rd round pick for Cammy. The 2014 draft was not very deep, and we ended up trading a 3rd rounder for Bollig. By that logic, the best return we could have gotten for him wasn't even as valuable as Bollig. I don't think it's something to lose sleep over...
Good luck to Cammalleri though. I'm fairly glad we're moving on into the next era.

It's not like he didn't attempt to trade Cammy, teams like the Ducks, Sharks, pretty much any playoff team could have used a scorer like Cammy but they didn't want to trade their late 1st for him. But since 1sts are valued a lot more now, I still think Cammy could have managed a 2nd and a prospect. I bet a team like Anaheim would've done a lot better in the playoffs with Cammy in their lineup.
Anyway, we used to have a GM who accepted trades that were not in our favor. It's good to know we have a guy like Burke (and now Treliving in office who will be hard to negotiate with rather than a walk in the park deal with Feaster in favor of the opposition.

a 3rd round pick wasn't going to change the fortunes of this team.

Gillis and kesler also screwed things up. That took a lot of peoples time leading up to the deadline.

I would've been content with a 2nd but I guess Burke was dead set on a 1st. Wasn't the Red Wings package Nyquist/Tatar/2nd?

Not upset... annoyed? Sure, but it doesn't raise to the level of upset. Something would have been better then the nothing we ended up with.

2nd wasn't even offered. Burke at a STH event said before deadline they wanted first and prospect. 24hrs before deadline just a first. On trade deadline day wanted just a second.

I'm more upset at Cammalleri for not going on that hot streak before the deadline, thus raising his stock. But in the end it doesn't matter. We got Bennett in the draft, and who knows what domino effect would have occurred if Cammalleri wasn't around. Meh. No point in worrying about it.

i was pretty annoyed when he wasn't moved, but if a 3rd rounder was the best return value then it really doesn't matter. Would have been happy with a 2nd rounder, amazing that teams weren't willing to make that move.
I'm just happy the flames didn't try to justify the non-move by trying to sign him to anything ridiculous.

Wasn't there a rumor Burke had a three team trade in works but one team held it up and they ran out of time? Was that ever confirmed?

What? Nyquist and Tatar were the only reason the Red Wings were winning games for a good chunk of last season. Pretty sure they didn't offer either of them (let alone both) for Cammalleri.

That Red wings package was a rumored deal for Boumeester (it was also Feaster not Burke). I think it was Nyquist or Tatar and the second. They would not give up their first.
