Not at all upset. I suspect that efforts were made but the market simply did not produce the sort of return the Flames were hoping for. In the end, the "non-trade" likely has no perceivable long-term impact.

Not at all upset, if the return offered was as bad as claimed your better off keeping him, you simply can't get pushed around in any trade.

Yeah I would say I'm disappointed not upset. Thought we'd get a first rounder for sure

Sounds like if Burke was offered something decent, we would've taken it. Unfortunately, Cammy didn't start playing well until after the deadline. If we were looking at a 3rd or 4th, the few weeks where we played competitive hockey were probably more valuable to our future.

Annoyed is probably a better word. Burke talked a big game then failed to deliver. He set the stage then couldn't meet expectations. What was most annoying was the excuse of not wanting to make a deal that would potentially make the team look weak and a considered a patsy league wide. Was BS then and BS now.

Not at all, some times you just get unlcuky. Cammy was far from the best player at the deadline! Ask yourself if as a GM you would want an offense specialist that can't score?
Leading to the trade deadline Cammy had 2 goal and 2 point and a +/- of -8 in 15 GP. This made him a very risky acqusition for any GM... Especially if you consider that his play might have been connected to some sort of an injury. Esentially nobody wanted to risk much for him(rumors say a third round pick). If he would've been traded for such a low price it would tell teams that if they wait and pressure the Flames on the next deadline, they will give.
Anyways this has been talked about multiple times, sometimes luck is just not on your side during a season.

the rebuild will fail because we didn't trade him for a 2nd round pick

I buy it.
For a team that will be selling off again this trade deadline other teams know Burke and company won't say no continuously then cave at the final minute selling an asset for anything.
Burke cited an example previously IIRC

The Flames should have gotten an asset for him, some way some how. However, is it the end of the world, nope.
Would have been nice to get a 2nd or 3rd for him and draft another defenseman though.

It's easy to say that we should have traded him but for all we know, Burke tried to. The perceived value around here for Cammy by some is a second or maybe third rounder, maybe we were offered a 4th or 5th for him and Burke decided that Cammy was better suited to mentor some kids for the rest of the year. Heck, maybe no one wanted Cammy at all.
It would have been nice to get something for Cammy and Butler too but if other GM's don't value the players available then it's not an option. People who were thinking we could get a late first or second should maybe take a step back and realize how much they over value Flames players.

The ramp up of success at the end of the year was good for the young guys. Worth a 3rd round pick? Who knows. But imagine if we floundered for the rest of the season -- way less optimism and confidence for the organization going into year 2 of the rebuild.
Cammy was a big part of that push -- I think we made out okay in the end.

It is as futile to second guess this as it is to second guess the Bouwmeester and Iginla trades

that's assuming we would have got the same return for Cammy as they got for Vanek (which most people doubt). Cammy wasn't the most sought after player at the deadline and it just looked like teams would rather have had Vanek or Moulson more.

Then some of us would be happy?
