I'm sure he was leading point/goal getter in franchise history when he left the team , isn't that enough !

Smid should be doing everything under his power to not associate to the clown show up north. He should have stuck with three. The less he remembers of his time as an Oiler the better.

I hope management is more competent after calling him Blair then to call him David at the end.

Back in the day, the day of low numbers that went from 1-35 with a few exceptions, didn't teams also consist of 3 lines of forward, maybe even 4 Dmen..... Leaving more available numbers? Lots of players are superstitious, that's all we need, a player struggling having to also wear a number they don't want, messing with their mind further.

I think Burke telling players they need to wear low numbers it stupid. Is there really a difference? No. Grumpy old man just making sure people know it's his way or the highway.

To me I think it is okay to encourage Flames to wear low numbers, but if a guy wants one higher than 35 why not?

I so badly wanted to get a Smid #3 jersey! Guess I'll wait and grab a #15 but how brutal of a defenceman number is 15?

I knock him down a peg on the basis of legacy. Theo created a debate, so he should be an FAF. If he just played well and was generally a good person, he probably would have been in the Hall of Fame and he probably would have been retired.

I don't think anyone can debate that Iggy and McInnis really should be retired, so thats why I feel they should be a step above the forever a Flame Like Lanny and Vernon.

It's not 9 or 30 (and soon 34), so nope I'm ok.

Forever a Flames is a joke anyhow.

BIG difference between him a Nieuwendyk
Gilmour was angry with the Flames that entire season - he could have held out like Nieuwendyk from the start of the year (though he was in the option year of his contract), but chose to try and play through while awaiting an arbitration hearing. The hearing was held during the season, one day after the arbitrator watched a Flames game at the Saddledome with Flames management and after John Ziegler interfered with the process himself. The decision was announced in late December. Gilmour considered taking legal action against the Flames before choosing to walk out on the club.

His response was more about the corruption of the process than anything else. If something like what happened to Gilmour were to occur today, the NHLPA would be hammering the NHL over the head with anti-trust lawsuits.

I'm sure all those fans with Cammalleri '13' jerseys would love to see Gaudreau get his 13...pay $20 and they have a brand new current jersey for years!

Maybe Bennett? Maybe?

The birth year trend for rookies has been happening for a few years now. Perhaps Burke will allow it?

There's a certain faction of Flames fans that like to hold Fleury's personal hell of a life experience against him 'til the bitter end.

I doubt they retire anymore jerseys. If they didn't retire the best defensemane to ever play for the Flames, Al Macinnis, I can't see them retiring Theo's number.

2 & 14 should be retired. I think they would have retired Al's number if St Louis hadn't made such a huge song-and-dance about retiring his number there. The Forever a Flame thing seemed to be born out of that...

Has anyone worn 14 recently? I remember Lydman wore it once in a development camp years and years ago.

It looks good on him.

I really hope Bennett wears 39 though.
