I'd put those players before D. Jones any day.

I thought Monahan would have been the perfect #19, oh well.

Mgmt: Hey, David, since we have a mandate for lower numbers and yours is 54 you're going to have to change your number, what would you like?
David: 14?
Mgmt: Nope, it is unusable right now. Since Blair Jones is gone it would save us money if you'd use 19. 5+4 equals 9 and 9 is retired so you can have 19 and we save money from having to throw out two sets of jerseys.
David: Uh, okay, I guess that works
Mgmt: Thanks, Blair. See you at camp in September.

I really have no problem with the FAF program, but I think there should be a 2 tier system.
2, 9, 12, & 30 should be off limits.
12, 14, 14, 20?, 25, 34, 39 should be honoured.
In the future there should be the option to retire or number, or make it off limits. But getting retired should require a first ballet hall of fame resume no questions ask, while with the Flames.
Such as being one of the best Dmen ever, winning the Norris and Conn Smythe, holding the team assist record as a dman, and setting the Slap Shot speed record multiple times.
Or winning a couple scoring titles, Every international turni out there, leading the team to a division title and conference title with little offensive help, and breaking nearly ever team offensive record.
I think 3 - 5 more years of service, or another big playoff run would have put Kipper there for me.

Huh?
I assume for #12 you meant retire Iginla and honor Loob. That's why I hate FAF and having numbers retired. Either continue down the retirement path or convert #30 and #9 to FAF. The two tiered is stupid.

Yep, I think the Two tiered system is just fine if they want to "honour" more players.
Lanny and Vernon are already up there so I say just leave them.
I think Al McInnis should have been retired, guy was the best Dman ever to wear a Flames jersey by miles.
Iggy should be retired, we all know that.
Loob, Flurey Nillson, Suter, Niewindyk, Kipper, and Gilmour should be honoured for bringing something exceptional to the team in their time, but maybe they were not here long enough or did not leave enough of a legacy to be retired.

Gilmour Should never be considered
He walked out on his teammates and he walked out on the fans.... there's no honour in that

Is that like drafting a Goalie named McDonald right after releasing a goalie named McDonald? No need to make new jerseys for training camp, just wear Joeys on Jersey.

They aren't even spelt the same. Joey is MacDonald - Mason is McDonald

So did Nieuwendyk. And Gilmour's reasons for doing so were far more legitimate. Nieuwendyk walked out on a valid contract because he wanted more money. Gilmour did too, but his arbitration hearing was straight up corrupt.
Gilmour shouldn't be FAF simply because he wasn't here long enough.

Pretty sure 14 has been worn since Fleury left hasn't it?

Gilmour walked out DURING the season, there's a huge difference. re-read my post as I chose my words carefully. His contract was good enough while he was setting up Joe Mullen for a OT winner against Montreal in the New Years classic between the two teams then decides his contract isn't good enough and walked out on his dressing room and teammates... BIG difference between him a Nieuwendyk

Toni Lydman wore it during one preseason game, but that's it and yeah doesn't count.

I'm oddly okay with this. I like lower numbers, but I don't know why.

The numbers should be a non-issue. I'd rather the club spent their time worrying about other issues, such as scrapping the walmart 3rd's and issuing an apology to the fanbase for such an atrocity.

In regards to the number changing to 1-35, I don't love it, but I don't hate it.
