Yo, Ninja, if it is a MLM marketing type thing where you can sign people up and make money from them, then that's where the real money is. Not washing windows. Sign some peons up who ARE good at sales and I guess washing windows too.

If it doesn't work that way, then read up on sales. Get some Zig Ziglar books or something. Anyone can sell. So many jobs out there boil down to sales, so you might as well be good at it. PM pylon or some other salesmen and get advice from them (sup pylon). Gotta hustle.

All about numbers, Ninja, more households you pitch too the better your odds...and the better your pitch gets, aim for 10% household to sale. I don't know if you really need the backing of the "company" to do this work, it might make you seem more reputable.

Oh and carry a bucket of mud with you, throw it at the houses of those that won't commit to a contract...

WGMG's is how quickly the years start to pass as you get older. I always knew that was a thing, but when you're younger you don't realize how real it is. Like seriously, now that I'm 29 I'll see something that happened in 2012 and think "oh yeah, that recent event".

But back in high school it would be 2002 and it would be all like "Man, remember way back when everyone was freaking out over Y2K?". Back then two years was a lifetime away, now it barely feels like anything.

The only thing I can find online for window washing scams is this one. But it seems kind of in line with what my friends went though only these guys seemed to take it to the next level.

He told me I would be able to run my own business, be my own boss, and make thousands of dollars, and have all the freedom to do it

Then they invited me to a training session, unpaid obviously

Then production season began, May. I spent $600 alone on the setup of this business, on roof racks, a vehicle, and ladders. Gas cost me $80 a week, and they assured they will reimburse me for it, of coarse another famous lie from these general managers. They pressured me to hire my own employees, put ads up costing me $30.00.

However, I did jobs where I got $600.00 cheques, did an amazing job, and the customers loved me. However, all cheques I got I had to send to College Pro, and then THEY pay me from that

I produced almost $9000 for this company, and was paid about $500, only in May. I worked till July, and I ended up paying my employees with all the money I had so I basically made $0. It's funny he didn't consider it my business, till my employees needed to get paid.

One of the best analogies I got about this was from a guy I used to work with.

"When you are 20 things feel like they are moving 20 miles per hour, when you are 50, it feels like 50 miles per hour." I turn 40 next month, and I feel like I've been in my 30's for only a few years. It's frikking depressing when you think about it. I remember summers as a kid seeming like an eternity. You went back to school 60 days later, and everything seemed totally new. Now, a year just passes in the blink of an eye.

Yup it's Canadian Property Stars. Most of the people who work there are university students just trying to make some money for school (aka me). They treat the job like a sport and give bonuses to whoever gets the highest sales.

As for my posts earlier just disregard them. That was mostly out of frustration and a heat stoke hahaha. We ended up getting three houses near the end of our day.

GMG's that I'm looking for yet another job. Thought this was the one for me (back in the I.T. industry), but I posted another gear grinder a little while back that I was so bored at work with nothing to do most the day. It hasn't gotten any better. And the fact he hired someone else at this small company with so little work just kills me.

Well, my contract stated that I would receive quarterly bonuses after my three month probation. Well, end of March was my three month probation. I had a review and was given a raise because he was extremely happy with my work. Then the end of June comes around (the first quarter that I was eligible for a quarterly bonus) and no mention of the bonus at all. Wasn't a surprise, this guy is very unorganized and would forget his head if it wasn't attached. Finally on Monday I send an email to him asking about the bonus as we are past the end of June. No answer Monday or Tuesday. I finally see him on Wednesday and ask him if he saw my email. His response? Yup, but no bonus because I received a raise at my review. Um, what? That's not what the contract says...

So bored, nothing to do...another guy hired with nothing to do and now a back paddle on the contract. Time for a new gig. I hate starting new jobs. I don't have any real formal training or certifications in I.T. so I guess it's back to sales. Good times...this really GMG's.

Use all that downtime he is gifting you with to study for your MS certs, it really helps if you want to move up the ladder in I.T.

And start at the bottom of another company again. Meh...I can get back into sales and be a Sales Manager or District Manager and make more money. I.T. is fun, but I'm not a young guy anymore...don't have a ton of time to work up another ladder.

The dictionary suggests that it's back-pedal. Not paddle. Unless you're actually in a canoe.

On a serious note though, sorry about the job. I remember you being pretty pumped for it when you got it.

Somewhere in a thread (maybe the important science news thread) on this site someone (Maybe Photon) posted a link to an article that this perception is actually a funtion on how memory works. It was a really good article and I can't find anywhere.

If I remember the gist of it it was that when you are 10 1 year is 10% of your life. When you are 100 1 year is 1% of your life so essentially it feels shorter because each year is less and less a chunk of your life.

Something to do with how the memories are stored and recalled.

On the perception side I think focusing on living in the moment helps. We plan so much and schedule so much that instead of enjoying each day we are planning for the weekend. When the weekend hits we worry about work on Monday. So we live lives in the future.

WRGMG is working in HR for a school board.
There's nothing more enjoyable then running a payroll when it's 34 degrees outside, and the people I am paying aren't even working.
Not to mention there is only 1 other person in the office with me.

Yeah, I've been noticing that to lately. Even places like CNN, you click on a news story and a video starts playing. Same with subscriptions to a lot of major city papers that used to be free. Now they give you a couple of stories and that's it.

It used to be I had a few good sites with no garbage but those are becoming very rare.

I believe I got a malaware from this here site from that ice cream ad just by scrolling over it on my laptop. You know that V9 that takes over your home page pretending it's google? Finally got rid of it and then there was a coupon downloader, got rid of that too now. I have antivirus software but still.

The point is a lot of the internet seems to be going to the dump and it's all about the money now. Like hockey salaries.

Has it outlived it's usefulness? Appears to be headed that way.

Is there any way that you can be more proactive in your current job? This would be a good opportunity to use the time to implement some new procedures or whatever. Maybe that is what your boss wants, without actually being enough of a leader to say it.
