I'm excited to see how he plays this year. There are a lot of big players on the Flames this year that so Raymond can do his thing. Also it's great to have a player be so excited to come here.
Ha ha Edmonton.

Hopefully he works out better then Galiardi who looked equally happy to play so close to home.

I concur, only it is even more enjoyable if we all just ignore his posts and talk about him in third person, much like we do with our pets.

Hopefully this guy can fill the void left by some of CP's recent dearly departed. I have high hopes for Malkin.

Malkin's off to a fantastic start. He's very focused, and clearly not dissuaded by things like facts or logic in his efforts to troll. He doesn't comment on anything except to take shots at the Flames, which shows his true commitment to his craft. No general hockey discussion to get him off his game.
"A" for effort and brazen commitment. I look forward to seeing much more.

That's what the Canuck fans say when they see the Stanley Cup being hoisted by other teams.

To me Mason Raymond is going to be a player who plays a prominent role at the beginning of his contract and then gradually becomes more of a utility player near the end.
This season he'll get top 6 minutes, especially if Gaudreau and Baertschi start the season in the minors as some expect them to.
In a couple of years, if/when Bennett, Gaudreau, Klimchuk and Baertschi break into the lineup, I think Raymond will be playing in the utility forward role that Galiardi/Byron occupied this past season. Having a speedster like him on the PK and tagging into the top-6 when needed is an upgrade on who is there now. It'll be him, and not the top prospects, that makes Byron expendable in the near future.
Good signing: a seasoned vet with a bit of playoff experience and local roots. Salary seems a bit high to me, but the term isn't crippling.

So why didn't the Leafs re-sign Raymond? Couldn't afford him? He seem to have a very solid season last year for them.

I can't imagine they would have matched the salary we offered him. Based on his performance last year with the Leafs he was due a raise, plus we know he was keen to come back to Calgary last season when he arrived at camp on a try-out basis. If we hadnt just acquire Galiardi I think Raymond would have earned himself a year-long deal then.
Who knows if the Leafs offered him anything, but if they did I doubt it would have been anywhere near our offer. They signed Santorelli to a $1.5 million 1yr contract to replace Raymond and I'm sure they're pretty happy with that.
I bet Mason Raymond is really happy to be a Flame.

There's really no logical explanation for anything the Leafs do or do not do.

It could also be argued that maybe Raymond just wanted to play in Calgary, being an UFA.
Last season he wanted to play in Calgary, I think even held out for a while hoping to get an offer, but they clearly didn't have room for him.

Had to reach the floor. They're pretty much done now once they sign Colborne and Bouma.
