Bennett wasn't going 100%? Is he hurt or.. Because wasn't he seen as a spark plug and one of the hardest working players? Is he just caught watching for his first ice time?

Johnny in the 2-on-2 drill:

1 - Nice cycle between JG and Bennett
2 - JG goal
3 - JG and Bennett again
4 - JG goal

BTW: The commentary is not me -- just some kids that were sitting in front of me

Monahan didn't look very good on day 1 last year either. Plus Bennett is a lot younger than everyone else. It's no big deal.

Bailey, Denham, Dienes Downing, Hathaway were all just there among the walk ons in group two.

Neither goalie was great, nor bad. All the walk on goalies were better than the walk on guy last year.

Harrison and Wolf were not very noticeable in the drills other than they were both quick. Neither possesses huge amounts of offensive skill, but that's also not their game.

Agostino had some determination in his game and gave good second efforts on plays.

Bennett was just okay. You can see his skill though despite him not really giving 100%.

Hickey is very quick for a D-man and makes a lot of good decisions on both sides of the puck. Also possesses a good shot. He and Kulak were very interchangeable in the drills, which is good because Kulak is good, but Hickey is 2 years younger. Lots of upside there.

Kulak and Culkin are both developing nicely. Kulak is better than Culkin and has a better shot, but they are both very close.

Eric Roy should probably be moved to forward, because he does have offensive skill. He's just a little lost defensively.

Sieloff looked almost as good as he did last year, which is good considering what has transpired.

Hunter Smith doesn't have a great shot, but he does have decent hands for a big guy. He was the biggest surprise today for me. He also has good speed and acceleration, both were slightly above average, which is somewhat shocking for someone that big.

Tolkinen, Valcourt, and Leedahl were the best of the walkons in group B. Leedahl, Fram and Zejdl are the leaders from them all. If Fram continues to be as good as he was, then you have to give him a contract. He was that good. The others are more bubbleish guys like Van Brabrant last year.
I would second the comment about Eric Roy. I was pretty impressed with his stick handling abilities.

good summary, better than mine!

Thanks for posting the videos! I didnt see your commentary before I watched them, came away saying holy crap who's this 63, he looks better than Gaudreau out there. Sure enough, it's Bennett! He looked awesome in these clips so not sure what he was doing wrong for the rest of the session since his play overall got only moderate reviews. Maybe expectations are a bit too high?

Bennett had 2 groin injuries during the season (the second hampered him in the playoffs). I wonder if he is 100% or just a bit rusty.

Can't say enough how happy it makes me to hear that Seiloff looked good out there today. I had almost written this year off for him as just trying to get back in the swing of things after such a long layoff. Pleasantly surprised, to say the least. Awesome news.

At the STH event a few weeks ago, Burke mentioned that they might try him out at forward sometime this year.

Sieloff is a little small to be a "Sarich" type D-man. He is only 6 feet. However, if you put him up front, he'd easily be a Bouma type guy that would be a great leader on the lower lines.

I still think Sieloff will crack the lineup as a defenceman eventually, but it's great for him to have some experience as a forward. Versatility is paramount for a player like him.

The only downside with Sieloff is that he has about zero offensive upside. He's scored 12 goals in competitive hockey in his entire career. Doesn't exactly scream 'forward' to me. He plays big and he's not easy to push around. I've seen him listed at 6'1" and he's a heavy, physical player. I don't see why he can't succeed as a defenceman.

I think he has the chops to be a good D-man. They might dress him as a winger like Engelland has.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
Important to note, Sieloff was sporting baby blue in development camp. He's cleared for contact, but won't be taking any this week.

Sieloff is 6'1", which might be small for a physical d-man, but his neck looks like a tree trunk, so I'm not really concerned that he can keep playing his style of game successfully.

Doughty is listed as 6'1" and I don't think anyone considers him to be a small d-man.
