So, who made the dumbest signing today? Here are the strongest candidates:
Dave Bolland - 5 years, 5.5M AAV
Brooks Orpik - 5 years, 5.5M AAV
Benoit Pouliot - 5 years, 4M AAV
Derek Engelland - 3 years, 2.9M AAV
Stephen Weiss - 5 years, 4.9M AAV
Cast your votes!
(Incidentally there's no point in a "best" thread because it's Ehrhoff)

Oh sorry, you meant this year. Bolland and Orpick, the other two you listed have comparables that are equal to what they got.

Engelland deal reminds me of the Pardy deal with Dallas a few years ago. Pretty gross, but not a huge amount of $$ in absolute terms, so whatever.
Pouliot deal is horrible. I think I'd rather have Byron.

Orpik, Bolland are ridiculous in both term and cap hit.

The difference is in 3 years we'll still be talking about the Orpik, Bolland, and Pouliot deals and how horrible they are. In 3 years the Engelland deal won't matter and will quickly be forgotten about

Orpik gets the edge over Bolland
Bolland is just a 3rd line center that's being massively overpaid, he can still contribute
Orpik should be a 7th d man

Stralman's contract is probably the best you could ask for on July 1.

The term on the orpik deal considering his age makes it the clear choice in my opinion.

1. Orpik
2. Pouliot
3. Cammy
4. Bolland
5. Moulson
These deals are all overpays and bad on their own but when you see the term versus what others got it makes them that much worse.
People can whine about the Englland deal all they want but being stuck with bad deals for 5 years and over 5 million are much worse than his deal.

Well if we were including previous years there's Alexei Yashin to consider. Even last year, Clarkson's was worse.

I apparently got infracted for telling someone they were wearing homer glasses?
Really?
I just did a broad search for that phrase and got 488 hits. Was that level of disagreement so beyond the pale? I feel like people disagree more strenuously than that all the time. I don't think that comment was out of line.
Also, obviously people are wearing homer glasses. This is a Flames board and it was a Flames signing.

I encourage you to read some of your posts on this board and all the arguments you seem to get into and ask yourself if you are disagreeing with folks in the right way.

Is arguing with people against the rules? I.e. it's a bad thing if I argue with people? This is frowned on? Because it seemst to me that arguing on internet message boards is like... 80% of internet message board traffic.
I realize the irony of arguing with you about this.
I suspect the main reason I argue with people on here is that I have strong opinions on hockey matters and am not a Flames fan.

Rubbish!
I like the contract and the term but that doesn't mean my opinion is biased due to me being a Flames fan. Flames fans can and are objective when they look at players signed by the Flames. Treliving and his staff did thier homework and came to the conclusion this was a player they needed to sign.

Your responses are often abrasive and basically strongly suggest that if someone doesn't share your opinion it is simply too hard to believe.
