I always wanted him brought back and to play in the role he has played his whole career. Hartley saw him as a guy who should play the grinding role on the third or 4th line. Thats not his style and he didnt fit into Hartley's 2nd line plans.
When did he ever request a trade from SJ? If I recall it was a cap issue or they were going to trade him anyway and SJ mgmt was kind enough to get the deal done with the team he wanted to play for.
All the best to TJ wherever he ends up. The system/coach did not play to his favor however I have no doubt he will be signed by someone and get back on track as he lost a step a few years ago when Regher took him into the boards at the dome!

1) The parts I've bolded here are not exactly true as Galiardi was tried a lot on the 2nd and 3rd lines for a good chunk of the season.
2) Galiardi averaged 14:41 minutes (that's at least solid 3rd-line minutes if not borderline 2nd-line minutes) over 62 games last year. http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id...32014&view=log
The point is, he actually got plenty of opportunity all throughout the lineup on many different lines with many different players to be more useful last year, but sadly he sucked rather badly for the balance of the year.

Too many here drank the Feaster Kool-Aid.
Classic CP overvaluing its "heroes". Not sure if Byron lands anywhere tbqh

Not qualifying Byron is clearly a tanking move.
Shame!

Let's be honest here, shall we?
Your judgement on players is skewed at best. You're smart enough to understand the rap you get here, yeah? So instead of these comments.. why don't you slink back into your Backlund/KHL ridiculousness.
Paul Byron has everything needed to play in the NHL -- and mark my words, he will find a home and be playing come September.
Care to make a bet you won't win?

I'll bet you Byron starts in the AHL next year if not signed to a two way

Why are you guys dumping on him? I wish him the best of luck. I'm sure he'll land a spot on an NHL team.

I'm not so sure about that...He's sub-mediocre and a rather marginal NHL player. Just not very good unfortunately.

Most of the posters here were like Jay Feaster and into supervalue contracts, getting a year younger (Size doesn't matter - that DSutter was an idiot!)
Now look? A new president and gm not named D Sutter (who also have rings) saying size/grit does matter.
Do you think Backlund is immune / part of this new, but proper thinking ??? He's here because were rebuilding. He has a long way to go (production wise or else learning to win faceoffs to be a shutdown guy) if hes going to be part of the new look Flames. There were substantial rumors of him being part of deals at draft day that fell through.
Please don't sit on your soapbox telling me that he's a fixture here. Right now (and until he produces) he's a stop-gap on a rebuilder.

Good God, you kept that laughable drivel in your signature until the point where it was just embarrassing not to remove it... and now this is your next phase of the Backlund hate?

I don't hate anyone outside of posters that crown fringe players, building blocks.
Why don't you answer to my points? You think Backs pots 25 next year? Learns to win face offs? You think he's got a spot on this roster out of worth? Vs. filling a spot until better options mature? (Bennett is a centre?)

Somebody please explain ... Why didn't we just traded the rights to Byron for a 4th line energy guy if they wanted to have one, instead of throwing away the 3rd round pick ?

He's 25 years old and still developing. Last year was his best season yet and he looked very good. It's definitely possible he gets 25 next year, just as it's possible he improves in the dot.
I think he's most definitely earned a spot on our roster at present.
Your irrational hate for him has always been beyond extreme, and everyone who watches this team has acknowledged how improved he looked this season, yet you continue with the same old crap. Did he run over your pet at some point?

Probably because Chicago was trying to shed salary, not take on extra salary and would have no use for Byron's rights. The third was an asset that has value to the Hawks that won't cost them any money or cap space in the present.
You have to have a trading partner who wants what you're willing to part with as much as you want what they're willing to part with.

There, we agree.
And of course my contention (well, actual league standings confirm this) is that we are a bottom 5 team at the moment. And because of this, players like Backlund are on this roster.
If you don't think this is a valid opinion, feel free to site dead pets, early loss of parents etc. as reasoning for my radical? ideas.

You don't really have to take such a hard stance, or go to such extremes.
He's still a fairly young player who has developed nicely over the years. This past season he was much better, had more confidence, and it showed. He was a pretty solid two-way player. You could see it develop over the season, and it also carried over to the WHC where he played really well.
Nobody is looking at Backlund as some sort or star center or stud that the team will be centered around, but rather a very useful piece for the next few years. He may be the #2 C next season (which isn't a bad thing), but at worst he's very solid #3 C. He's a pretty decent player........and not just on the Flames, he could play on any team in the league.

That would be completely fine, were it not for a little thing called context. You've shown in the past (to a bizarre extreme) that you have an outright agenda to discredit and downplay Backlund. It was well documented in your signature until it got to the point where it was asinine to keep it there.
I think he's definitely earned a spot now, and if he continues to progress (as is possible with him being so young and having just started to put it together) there is a good possibility he remains an integral part of this team as it begins to improve.
Your admission that the only reason he belongs on the team now is because of how poor it is - is a thinly veiled way of continuing your unfounded bias. It's clear you're suggesting that is his absolute ceiling in an attempt to save face for the years you've spent suggesting he belongs in the KHL.
