Do not cheer for the Canucks.
They are an embarrassment of a sports franchise.

You've made the first step, in moving to city with a solid fan base, without the moral depravities of the local sports team, where you once lived.

Do not wear a Canucks or Oilers jersey while out in public.

CP has it's annual playoff and regular season draft. Come see Locke finish in last place.

If this was anyone other than Matty Barzal I'd say it's a troll job. Matt has always been a straightshooter though so welcome to Calgary pal. You're gonna love it.

Anejo is pretty good. The food is very good, but ya it's expensive and the service is terrible.

Well, I'm going to hope that Calgary isn't as hostile as you lot but thanks to the people that did reply. To clear things up I'm simply a Canucks fan because they were the easiest to follow given where I was born. I have no problem in cheering for any other team in the NHL because I'm a bigger fan of the sport itself than teams in specific.

The good is great, its a safer city then GVA, the weather is hit and miss, mostly miss and the people are great. Hopefully you'll attend school here and make friends fast.

Trying to make Mexican food into fine dining is the first sign that it's probably not going to be very authentic Mexican food. I find Mexican to be one of cuisines, where the less formal the better.

Went to El Charrito last week and can confirm that it's horrible.

Can also confirm that Oro Azul and Jalapenos are the best two taco shops in Calgary.

Anejo is also as Mexican as Taco Bell.

As others have said, cheer for the Flames. If you cheer other teams, sure... just don't tell anyone. I guess the loophole is when the Flames are not in the playoffs. In that case, I guess many will accept cheering for other teams if you're not able to cheer for Iginla.

You will probably want to learn to drive and get access to a car. If you need a jacket, you do not "need" a $800 Canada Goose Jacket to stay warm. You can easily stay warm with a sub $200 jacket if you layer up underneath. I have no idea where this began perpetuating, but apparently many Vanc people think this is true.

Learn to enjoy blue jeans. Learn to enjoy cowboy hats. Boots however, are optional.

Are you good at drinking? That's one of the few things actually open at night. For the record, our drinking age is lower than BC.

You might want to "invest" in some technology, netflix subscription or a video game console to stay sane.

Get a part time job if you can muster. Summer job if you're here in time. You'll want it for the thing you purchase to stay sane.

Stay away from certain communities at night if possible. Same as certain areas of downtown.

Boudoire Rouge is not lipstick, but perhaps involves quite an ample amount of it.

When friends visit, Banff and Drumheller are honestly some of the most interesting things they may want to visit. We also have a great zoo experience. One is near the downtown area and the other is 3 hours north. Put yourself out there to make friends to hang out with. Otherwise, this city can get dreary fast as it's not easy to "plug in" for nightlife here.

Food (especially Asian), may take a significant downgrade. You might want to learn to love McDonald's.

Get used to seeing people in T-shirts, shorts or some combination of that in all weather. I still stare in confusion when I see some kid running around in T-Shirt and shorts in -20C weather.

There's probably more.

If you're new to the area it's definitely worth driving out to Canmore and Banff for the scenery. Just don't go there on a long weekend. Within Calgary lots to see and do, especially in the summer and fall when the weather is decent. Stampede is coming up so there will be tons of free pancake breakfasts.

FYI, Im a Canucks fan as well and find the city to be accommodating

Cheer for the Sabres.

It's like cheering for a team other than Calgary, except most people don't hate you, and always ask "Lol how did you become a fan of them anyways?" Instant conversation starter.

I can see how it would make sense in the second post on this forum to criticize how others post here, after starting a post demanding our information. All responses must include lol, because that is mature, and we need to know exactly when you laughed out loud. Dos does not have an apostrophe in it. Apostrophes aren't like wieners; you can't just stick them wherever you want.

As for your request:

1. Calgary is good
2. Vancouver is no good
3. Edmonton is no good
4. Truculent should be a banned word
5. You'll need thick skin

We'll agree to disagree.

I've loved it since I was a kid and aside from the fries, it hasn't changed one bit.

Well, they recently added Debit and Poutine, I guess.

Will always be one of my faves.

Just wish ABC chinese food and White Spot's dry garlic meatballs were still around, then I'd be in food heaven.
