Considering Edmonton is not a prime destination for UFA's it going to be almost impossible for MacT to find a center who could replace Gagner. Oilers would have been better off to keep Gagner for another year with hopes his value would rise and at the same time allow LD another year to develop.

My brother loves Stauffer. Told me he's really connected and really hockey smart. Listens to his podcast daily.

Jones is usually better, but jeez

Wait, is that what kind of plane ticket he'll buy, or how he'll describe Dallas Eakins when he goes back to Russia?

his NMC clause kicks in July 1st...even if his stock does rise, the trade value doesn't (as you guys clearly know...)

The Antonov AN225 was in Edmonton Friday. I think they kept it overnight to see if it had enough room to carry Yakupovs ego and Drasaitl's arse over to the KHL on the same flight at this time next season.

A player who knows he's not wanted will waive that NMC for a fresh start with another team.

Rushing players into the lineup before they are ready is what the Oilers do best. Surely you can't be happy about that.
Let's see what happens in free agency before we jump to conclusions.

Denver hockey writer Adrian Dater @adater
Two grossly overpaid, mediocre forwards change hands with Oilers-Lightning. Nothing to get excited over

Mark Spector ‏@SportsnetSpec
Gagner’s future is as a winger, IMO. Oil now short at C, unless they’ve penned Draisaitl in at No. 2 C.

Globe & Mail hockey writer James Mirtle ‏@mirtle
Oilers really rebuilding the rebuild now aren’t they?

RCN ‏@RossCreekNation
@hockeysymposium Oilers C depth chart:
1. Nuge
2. player to be named later
3. Draisaitl
4. Gordon
5. Arcobello
6. Lander

Maybe Mact has a move coming for a 2c in the UFA market, maybe that's why he made the move to ship Gagner out. Or maybe he is just as dumb as everyone here thinks he is. We shall see.

It's not likely that Edmoton is going to be a #1 destination for UFA"s. More likely they will have to overpay to attract them like they did with Ference and his retirement contract.

Interesting that he goes to the Coyotes, but I am not surprised.

I was in Arizona in April and went to the Oilers vs. Coyotes game.

Gagner was invisible the whole game, then in the last minute he scored the tying goal.

Then he had a great Overtime.

Then he scored the winning goal in the shoot out with a sick move.

Lots of players nix trades (Sundin, Heatley, Spezza, even Kipper).

Not necessarily. Gagner is due to get the NMC comes July 1st. So, with his big contract and the NMC it would tough for MacT to trade him where he can get something he wants in return. If he hang on to him, he might be stuck with him until his contract ends. I don't think we are giving MacT much credit here... he is much smarter than Kevin Lowe that's for sure. Besides MacT knows a 2C will never sign for the Coilers... they are focus on giving Draisatl the 2C position earned or not.

I agree with you, just curious what did Kipper nix? because he only had a NMC until the 2011-12 season.

I've had dogs that were smarter than Kevin Lowe. That doesn't mean I want my dog running an NHL team.

Being smarter than Lowe is nothing to brag about
