If you are experiencing a drastic reaction to this one way or another, you're over reacting.

No, your problem is that you feel the need to tell us over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again just how much smarter you are than the Flames.
We get it Ashasx. We heard you the first dozen times.

He's not just a 4th line plug. Think along the lines of a bigger Bouma. Hits more, scores more, fights better.
The price was higher than anyone would have liked but at the end of the day we're a better team than we were before the trade, and I personally didn't have much hope of getting a solid prospect in the 3rd round this year.
|
I don't want to build a team like the Oilers. I don't know why that's the only thing you took from my post.
We already have 2 terrible hockey-playing goons signed for next year. We didn't need to trade an asset for another one.
Simple as that. Bad trade, bad asset management, wrong team philosophy.

Exactly. This is the type of role player you win with. This type of trade is what the Oilers should be doing, but we all know how smart Lowe is. Maybe Lowe is taking advice from Ashasx?

He isn't a terrible hockey playing goon so who cares how many of them we have signed.
He can play a legitimate NHL shift.

Just STFU already! Drafted poorly over the last three drafts in rounds 2-7? Here's who the Flames have picked over the last three drafts in those rounds.
2013 - Kanzig (3), Roy (5), Harrison (6), Rafikov (7) and Gilmour (7)
2012 - Sieloff (2), Gillies (3), Kulak (4), Culkin (5), Gordon (6), DeBlouw (7)
2011 - Granlund (2), Wotherspoon (2), Gaudreau (4), Brossoit (6)
What is so bad about those players? Holy over-reaction. Only two of them haven't been signed or look to be on their way to being signed.

Mcgrattan was also a FA signing on his first spell with Calgary...
so there are plenty of examples of similar players that have been acquired for nothing.
|
Mcgrattan/Westgarh would not have been playing 82/games and 10 mins a night for the Hawks

My Oiler comparison was that you seem to only ever want small skilled players. You can't build a fantasy league team in the NHL, it doesn't work. You need heart and soul grinders.
Bollig isn't a goon. He's more of a Bouma than a Westgarth.
Price was high, no doubt. I guess the main difference between your thinking and mine is that I believe Bollig is a much better asset than anything that 3rd would have fetched.

3 drafts, including this draft and not 2011. I've already said that given where we picked, 2011 is probably the best draft in Flames history.

Yet they just signed him to a three year contract back in March? They obviously liked the guy. It was a cap move for them.

Personally I see Bollig as potentially replacing the type of player that Prust was for us. In that sense, he is an upgrade over Westgarth. McGratts is still the enforcer. Bollig is another guy who can drop them but brings other aspects of the game to the 3rd or 4th line. We've been missing a player like Prust and I hope Bollig can bring that same "tough to play against" attitude.

Anyone else tired of the Flames recycling other team's big bodied borderline NHLers? How many has it been now? Thought it was a Feaster experiment, but it continues under Treliving....

Borderline NHLer, lol ok, an elite team gave him a three year deal back in March.
You're just looking to complain.
I remember a few months ago you were crying about how Burke was making a fool of everyone because he was just going to name himself GM, how did that work out again?

yeah, but a guy like Jackman played very well for us and we didn't have to give up an asset.
Again, I think people understand, and agree, that getting tougher is not a bad thing.
Now whether you give up an asset to do that is what is being argued about...In theory, they could have tried swinging for the fences with that pick a la Johnny Gaudreau, and picked up a player similar to Bollig on the UFA market...
that's all I am trying to suggest...

I'll take Bollig over Dorsett any day, both cost 3rds.
