Exactly, thanks for digging that up. Sometimes a little calm reflection is best during the draft.
We are going to have a lot of young, small forwards in the lineup going forward and it's important to have these types of guys around.
Now I know the argument against it is "when's the last time a tough guy rushed in to defend one of our little guys?" They don't have to necessarily. When a team starts to get pushed around all the players feel it but when you can throw a few big, tough guys out for a regular shift the whole team feels that as well.

Bouma is not a 4th liner and should not be playing with Bollig and McGrattan.

Yeah I didn't want Westgarth back but didn't feel comfortable with Bouma being the next guy after McGratton to fill the tough guy role. Fantastic move IMO.

Bollig could have been had with a later pick no? Bollig still has 3yrs @ 1.25M.

Holy crap! That's a lot of big tough guys on the bottom six.
Brian McGrattan 6'-4" - 235lbs
Brandon Bollig 6'-3" 215lbs
David Wolfe 6'-2" 216lbs
Lance Bouma 6'1" 210lbs

Because Brian Burke spoke specifically about having 2 tough guys, it was bound to happen.

I like it, hes relatively cheap but hes established and a known quantity whereas a third rounder is a lottery ticket.
I'm fine with it.

A 4th or 5th maybe but the Flames do not have either round.

If you're asking in terms of contract and skill status - Westgarth is a UFA and Bollig is better.
If you're asking in terms of team make-up philosophy - Brian Burke and protecting a lot of young players. Whether you agree or not, the Flames were going to have 2 guys on the roster that can protect the rest of the young/smaller players.

30 other teams passing on Karlsson several times as well... Must be some concerns?

Ok, not bad considering his ice-time.
I still don't like it though, but a late 3rd isn't worth crying over either.

What about Cody McCormick? He's a free agent centre that can play a regular shift and plays tough?

Bollig played a regular shift on one of the NHL's best teams. That says a lot more to me than "waaaah, I hate fighters".

But what do you really have with Bollig?
Anton has a ton of upside. Had poor offensive output at recent WJC U18, but looked like a forechecking machine at WJC U20s.

Who? How many games has he played in the NHL? Bollig is a full time NHL player.

The Flames do have a problem with size, but it's because the top 6 and defense are small, not because there aren't enough goons filling the 3rd and 4th lines.
This is a head scratcher to me.
