If it is substance abuse and he can get a handle on his issues he could come back and be a decent player. Getting sober/clean can really reinvigorate a person

Considering how many teams he has been on the last few years, looking ok on the surface the few times you may see him a year on the opposing teams, and then next year or two, he's on another team, with people scratching heads as to why he moves from team to team, means whatever his issues are, aren't likely new.

Isn't that what the NRA's for? Maybe they're not entirely anonymous though.

I don't think the GM would come out and say he had some "real issues that they couldn't tolerate going forward" and said they "knew about last year and tried to manage when signed him" and that the "team would be better in the long run without him" if it was something like booze or drugs.

That wouldn't be PC or altogether that sensitive.

Sounding more like he's lazy/arrogant/thinking the team rules don't apply to him.

The "issues" included missing practices, missing buses and a shouting match with Tippett.

Quote:
His past track record with coach Dave Tippett in Dallas made the management and coaching staffs believe they could handle whatever issues arose, but a source told FOX Sports Arizona that Ribeiro was late for practices, missed meetings, missed buses and even engaged in a shouting match with Tippett in the locker room after a game in Colorado.

Ribeiro had some marital issues as well and he never seemed to click with any of his linemates, managing just 16 goals and 47 points in 80 games. With his team chasing a playoff spot late in the season, Tippett benched Ribeiro for games at Pittsburgh and New Jersey.
http://msn.foxsports.com/arizona/sto...roblems-062714

I wonder if this had anything to do with the turmoil with the Coyotes this year. Lots of player only closed door meetings after games leaving the media just standing there with no clue what to do, lots of "odd" roster changes and players being moved about (Klesla waived and top players being benched to get a message to the team that never quite worked), lots of Tippett pulling players out of scheduled interviews for immediate meetings. I've not really seen anything like it before from a hockey team.

Something definitely changed with this guy as the season went on. Waste of money and waste of talent. A shame, but I'm glad he won't be returning. He was truly pathetic on the ice the last half of the season.

I don't think we're gonna see this guy in the NHL anymore after this. He's done.

potential is nothing without hard work and discipline. He had sick eyehand and soft hands but didn't dedicate enough time to utilizing it properly

STRONG dislike for this player. He'll find work somewhere, may not be in the NHL though.

The bolded one gets me. Maloney is not usually a guy that would throw a guy under the bus. He really throws it at Ribeiro here.

Sadly, he'll sign with the Canucks and light the Flames up as usual.

I hope he signs there and destroys what's left of that shell of a team.

Talk about rewarding bad behavior.

I speculate that Ribeiro is a sexual deviant of some sort.

Wasn't there some kind of legal issue with his wife and sister in-law or so in Texas, a year or two ago?

I have always hated Ribeiro. He has always been a poor sport and a mouth piece that can't back it up. I don't blame the Coyotes for not wanting him. Thats pretty bad that they are paying him out so he can play for someone else.

Okay. I'm not even going to ask what you base that on.

To me it sounds like the guy is just a bit of a jerk.

Yes, him and the wife were arrested for public intoxication: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog...urn=nhl-276106

The wife sounds like she might be a bit difficult herself. She went to Twitter to vent when he was not re-signed by Washington last season: http://larrybrownsports.com/hockey/m...apitals/194814

Stark contrast from how he was portrayed a year ago when he was with the Capitals: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=660139

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 2m
The Flames were aggressive pre-draft. Offered to take on Mike Ribeiro for 12th pick (Ribeiro wouldn't waive). Ultimately, he was bought out.

12th pick was Perlini.

Could they have use a buyout on Riberio after acquiring him?
