We will have to wait and see as you could look at this two ways as it's either another addition to the good old boys club given his ties to Lowe or it's to make the difficult decisions that Katz couldn't do himself. Time will tell.

So Nicholson is going to get the same position that Ken King holds here?

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but it is kind of weird that the management group isn't in Edmonton a couple weeks before a draft. Did they mention why they were in the Okanogan?

The Hockey News Draft Primer came out weeks ago - their planning is all done.

At first, I was worried that it was a position above Lowe's and Lowe's departure was imminent. But in the TSN article, it describes his role and Lowe's as equals
Quote:
Under the newly named Oilers Entertainment Group, or OEG, Katz will be chairman while former Oiler Kevin Lowe and Nicholson will be vice-chairmen.
Lowe will continue to be in charge of hockey operations while Nicholson will handle the business side -- but both said they expect the other to help out across the board.
|
So it sounds like a Ken King's equivelent position, which means Lowe's postion is reinforced and more years of Oiler failure to come!

Why is it weird? Draft/organizational planning retreat I'd assume. This internet and computer thing allows you to not have to be in your home office all of the time.

I guess when your team mantra is to have a country club atmosphere that makes sense.

Now I'm confused what Pat Laforge does as the President and COO.

The Oilers problem is not on the business side and that's where Nicholson is working on. It is the hockey personnel that they are having problem, which to no surprise is lead by none other than the KLowe. So Nicholson might help bring in some more fans and revenue to the Oilers' organization, unfortunately he won't be able to fix the team's performance while Kevin Lowe is still the President of Hockey Operation.
So in other words, Edmonton is still NO GOOD!! oooops wrong thread but who cares?

As much as I want to bash the Oilers, what does it matter if they are in Edmonton, Okanagan, New York, Florida, etc... As long as they are all together and working on the draft, it doesn't really matter where they do it.

Maybe the business side will stop the Hockey Side saying stupid things to their customers (i.e. the fans).

Oilers entertainment group... talk about delusions of grandeur. Its the Oilers and the Oil Kings and I guess throw in the Bakersfield Condors if they count... I think 50% of Calgarypuck could afford to own them.

I am certain they are going to try and buy the Eskimos, because they are original and don't follow anyone's business model.

True. I am not sure Nicholson is a miracle maker though. As long as Kevin Lowe is still involve with Oilers, I don't think those things will change.
