I didn't say *replace* him, I said fire him. No replacing him would require being entirely too close to the line of fire. Better to just hire someone else and install them safely beneath your pay grade.

Katz is such a coward.
Doesn't have the sack to fire Lowe himself, so needs to hire Nicholson to do it.

It's the inevitable move, but absolutely 100% correct. Katz hired a guy to do his dirty work.
As a flames fan I'm now worried that the oilers are on track.
But if Lowe still has a job at the draft, all is status quo in oiler land...

To be fair Katz may be looking at cleaning house and he's probably not qualified to access a lot of the hockey operation positions or have a clue in regards to finding proper replacements. Bob can come in much like Burke and take a season (or a half a season in Burke's case) to determine who needs to go.
For Nicholson's sake I hope this is the case as just adding him as a co-star in the KLowne show is going to tarnish his reputation as he gets overly saturated with the stink of total utter failure.

For the rivalry it is imperative that both the Oilers and Flames start making improvements. I hope this is the turning point for Edmonton, tired of kicking that special needs franchise while they are down.

More likely, this spells the end of Kevin Lowe's involvement with Hockey Canada. Political nepotism was the only reason Lowe ever became involved in the first place.

Nothing wrong with Oilers hate but can we leave the kid out of it?

The minute that Darryl started dragging his kid up on stage and having him sit at the draft table, he became a character in this little fart bomb play called "Oil don't change"

Yup. This is no different what the flames did. Ownership finally waking up and realizing they don't have the hockey mind that they thought they had. If anything Katz is probably hoping that the review on Lowe is good and that he should not be fired. I think Katz will be disappointed on that matter.

I'm not sure about that. From what I have read Lowe is highly regarded when it comes to hockey canada. It's probably the only thing he has going for him in the "positive side" on him keeping his Oilers job. Still think Lowe is done by November.

The reason Nicholson is joining the Oilers is because he's friends with Lowe. He's not going to fire him.
Otherwise he would literally go to any other team.

If your goal is job security the Oilers are the place to go since it is virtually impossible to get fired from there. At worst you get reassigned to some advisor role.

Wonder how much they overpaid him? The Canucks job would be more intriguing working with Trevor Linden.

I'm assuming by "hugely promising" he means the promised size of his paycheque, and not the hockey team.

From my understanding he is in charge of all of Katz's sports division, essentially. Which includes the oilers, oil kings, ECHL's bakersfield condors, and the Oklahoma Oil Barons.
