Well it'd be pretty stupid to release it with the same name. People would get confused.

I think a few people need to take a step back from the keyboard for a minutes.

After listening to Jim Hughson for the last five years, I'm just happy to have new commentary.
Everything else is icing on the cake

Yeah, I see it now
In my own defense, and to justify my previous response, sarcasm is tricky when it comes to written text.

Listen, #######, we want to know actual things about the game, not your marketing crap.
What I actually got out of that:
1. They have changed the puck physics. How? No idea.
2. They focused heavily on crowd models. F*** off. This impacts the game not at all.
3. They've "improved the AI", a claim they make every year.
4. They have overhauled the menus. This is absolutely necessary so I hope they did a good job simplifying it.
5. New commentary team is a major selling point.
I'm happy they changed the commentators, it was time, but it appears their main "here's why you should upgrade this year" are that and the crowds - two changes that have zero impact on how the game plays. People saying "this is the same game" appear to be more or less correct. I will still play it but it's super frustrating how incompetent this development team is and how they manage to consistently underwhelm. I hope that the above doesn't represent the product on release but given past events I won't get my hopes up.

NHL 15 Thread
I don't fully understand the negativity, unless one's view is that NHL 14 is a poor or mediocre hockey game. I think it was a very good product, so the fact that NHL 15 is an iterative change doesn't surprise or disappoint me.
The changes this time around seem more significant and wide-sweeping than in any of the versions I can remember the past several years. They've built a fairly solid core game, so it's difficult to put a game out at this stage that will come out of left field and absolutely blow everyone's socks off. As someone said, maybe we're spoiled for having received the skill stick so early on?

My view is that NHL 14 has obvious shortcomings, many of which have existed for several iterations of NHL. The move to a new, more powerful platform was an opportunity to address a whole bunch of these. That opportunity appears to have been squandered - my cynical reaction is that they figured that with it being a new platform release, people would upgrade regardless of what they did.
How do the changes seem more significant than the past several years? The only gameplay change they've announced appears to be new puck physics, and they haven't even explained what that means. For me, the new skating engine was a bigger deal; one which they promptly nerfed to make it feel closer to the previous games. The big changes here appear to be mostly window dressing.

Apparently NHL15 will be using the block menu system similar to FIFA14. It's not bad, but would have been awesome if we had a choice in what goes where and removing unnecessary things.

I used to play NHL 2000 a tonne. I hated this one line from Craig Simpson.

I might be the only one who misses Don Taylor's nonsense. "He hits with a scowl on his face, Jim! But he also barbecues with a scowl on his face, so I wouldn't read too much into that."

Again I ask. How could you possibly know this without playing the final product?

I can't know that, which is why I said "appears to have been". As in, all evidence available points towards that being the case. It may well be that once this hits shelves it will turn out that they've significantly improved the gameplay. If you'll read my earlier post, I said that I hoped that I was wrong and that what has been presented isn't a representation of what the product will look like on release. However, I also said I'm not getting my hopes up.

I can understand people who choose to be critical of the game. They want certain things in the game and want it to play in a way that appeases them. That's fair since it's their opinion.
What I don't understand is one getting upset, and throwing vulgar language because they didn't like what they read. As Bryzgalov said: "It's only a game." There's no reason to get bent out of shape over a simple Q&A or a video that doesn't show much about game. I wouldn't pass judgement on a game until I learn more about it, and actually got to play it to get a true impression.
