So for Father's Day my dad wants to watch the England Italy game in a pub tomorrow. Where is a good spot? He'd prefer a pro-England place. Hopefully somewhere that will still be possible to get a seat an hour before the game.

yes, but hockey is much faster plus it usually takes more than one touch to score.
If 99,99% of the world only needs one replay to see if it was or wasn't offside I don't think it will be that hard to call for a referee when he's allowed to watch a replay.

Just give both teams 1 video referral/challenge per game. If you're right you keep the challenge, if you're wrong you lose your challenge.
Pretty simple imo.

It works perfect in field hockey.

Offside zone entry is not nearly as relevant in hockey compared to soccer though. How often does a missed offside result in a goal/non-goal in hockey compared to soccer?

The challenge would work. The soccer offside rule is unfortunate, it's just totally stacked against a human being able to make an accurate ruling if the potential offside player and the player who plays the ball are more than 20 yards apart.

tough gig

They get it right amazingly often these days though. FIFA has put in a lot work to improve it, since 1998 games if I remember correctly (where it was 50/50 pretty much).

In UEFA 2012 group stages it was above 95% right.

I am very impressed at how well the pitch is holding up in the rain. Well done!

But if they're still 5% off, it's worth to add video replays.
One offside can change a lot.. a whole lot. Espacially in tournaments.

Another problem with replay in soccer is that itll be used as a timewasting tactic. There nobody more devious than soccer players and coaches. Refs never addon the time they are supposed .

Like now. Mexico making subs just to waste time.

I think substitutions in added time should be banned

In fairness, who doesnt? Hes like the Mexican Miroslav Klose, garbage for his club team but magic for Mexico.

Well, I'm off to watch us get beaten by Spain.
2-0 or 3-1 Spain I think.
Everything better is a bonus, everything worse is confirmation that we have a really bad team this year.

Great result for CONCACAF.

Still a longshot but if one of our teams can go on a big run we will have a much stronger case to make those 3.5 qualifying spots into 4 which would be big for Canada.

Mexico winning is pretty much what I was expecting. Brazil and Mexico should be the two that represent group A in the round of 16.

You can try Pig & Duke (12th Ave around 12th St. SW). It's normally the home of the Calgary Gooners and I know there will be a lot of that group watching there (with food & drink specials) and it's definitely going to be pro-England. Not sure how early you'd need to be there to get a table - I think they do take reservations so you can call and ask them.
