While a beer with any Flames fan is a great opportunity for good conversation I don't think it is constructive to call those who disagree with a point of view a kool-aid drinker. Just because people have a different perspective does not mean their opinion is less valid than your own. I don't understand the amount of angst a certain poster has over the fact I am not impressed with Burke or a fan of his. I really don't care whether someone else likes him or not, it is my opinion based on looking at his performance in his role with his various hockey clubs that has informed my opinion. Feel free to disagree with it, but at least take an honest look at what he's done with each team.
People will rave about his ability to make a great deal, but I think they tend to focus too much on the big steals he's stumbled into. His robbery of Calgary was a result of being in the right place at the right time and Sutter doing whatever he could to dump Phaneuf for what he considered a decent return. (we all lament the deal as a rip off, but in retrospect would you really want Phaneuf on this team?) The Pronger deal was also a pretty risky one considering what he gave up, but it turned out pretty good for the Ducks. But there are other deals where Burke was not quite so fortunate. The Phil Kessel deal has not turned out very good. He's not done well in his deals where he sends picks out at all. Consider the guys he's traded away and the guys he's acquired.
Players Burke traded away

Tomas Kaberle, Francois Beauchemin (twice), Luke Schenn, R.J. Umberger, Peter Schaefer, Felix Potvin, Alexander Mogilny, Dave Scatchard, Felix Potvin, Pavel Bure, Brad Ference, Brett Hedican, Mathieu Schneider, Andy McDonald, Curtis Glencross, Vitaly Vishnevski, Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid, Sandis Ozolinsh, Sergei Fedorov

  Players Burke traded for

Chris Pronger, Dion Phaneuf, Phil Kessel, Joe Colborne (twice), John Michael-Liles, James Van Reimsdyk, Martin Rucinsky, Sami Salo, Trevor Linden (old Linden), Felix Potvin, Dan Cloutier, Brendan Morrison, Mike Brown, Dave Gagner, Ed Jovanovski, Kevin Weekes, Doug Weight, Ladislav Smid, Francois Beauchemin

Then consider some of the picks he's traded away and some of the players he's picked with draft picks he got in trade. After the Sedins it gets ugly quickly.
Players selected with picks Burke dealt away

Tyler Seguin, Jared Knight, Dougie Hamilton, Brandon Saad, Rickard Rakell, John Gibson, Boyd Gordon, Zack Stortini, Patrik Stefan, Pavel Brendl, Pavel, Vorobiev, Jimmie Olvestad, Tyler Myers, Colton Gillies, T.J. Galiardi, Nick Ross, Travis Harmonic, Jordan Eberle, Keith Seabrook

Players selected with picks Burke acquired

Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Nathan Smith, Tyler Biggs, Stuart Percy, Josh Leivo, Jake Gardiner, Logan MacMillan, Eric Tangradi
His trading history just isn't that good when you look at the whole body.

Not great stuff. I won't even get into the obnoxiousness of his communication style, but I will say it annoys me to no end when he talks like he's the greatest GM in the history of the game and belittles those who came before him. I don't like the guy, but I don't hate him either. I just wish he would spend more time getting #### done and less time talking about it.
