I think the reason the Redskins are chiefly (nyuk nyuk nyuk) being targeted, is due to them being the biggest sports franchise with a racist name. Start at the top and hope for the trickle down affect to sort the rest out:

Some of those I get for sure, but it was news to me that North Dakota was forced to drop its logo and the Fighting Sioux name. The logo was basically what the Blackhawks is now and Fighting Sioux doesn't seem bad at all. But I guess if someone, anyone, anywhere got offended it was time for a change.

Child abuse sadly doesn't equal a name that may be racist even though it clearly is currently used in a way that isn't meant to be racist.

His use of the "reference material" in his post, seems to point to him believing all those teams should change their name as well.

If I miss-read his post, then I will extend an apology. However, based on many of the posts in this thread, I don't think I did read it wrong.

First off it isn't "my" list. I was responding to a post asking about if the issue was with Redskins or indiginous peoples being used by sports teams. I simply searched for a list showing ones fitting the mold.

Sorry I guess I missunderstood you when you used the word "forced". To me it read as a "why should the keyboard warriors, makle the Redskins change their names, and not these other teams".

If you want to compare a debatable issue with a non-debatable issue then sure.

There is no consensus on this issue among natives or non-natives so it isn't remotely comparable. A more similar issue might be something like no kill policy on stelter animals which isn't such a black and white issue.
