The first bullet speaks volumes to those that think Treliving and the rest of the staff will just be Burke's puppets. The group will have meaningful discussions, exchange ideas, and take into account everyone's ideas, but it looks to be Treliving's call on what happens with the hockey team. Burke has even mentioned he's not sure if Brad will trade for another 1st round pick.
I recall when the Flames asked not to wear the jerseys on February 1st, Burke said something along the lines of "Sure, I can take care of that for you". He seems to have changed his outlook on that. They did win their 5th in a row that night.

^ I also recall Hartley asked Burke if they could ditch the thirds and Burke approved. Thought I was misremembering, but maybe not.

It's funny cause every time Brian Burke has to say something I'm way more attentive to him than any other NHL executive in the league. He has that factor that makes you want to listen to him. Maybe it's the way he projects his message by being blunt, I don't know, I enjoy listening to his interviews.

Good catch. From the Feb 1 post-game press conference:
Quote:
Reporter: Did you have any say in what uniforms your team wore tonight?
Hartley: Yesterday I talked to Brian [Burke]. I said we're playing so well right now. I said, "Can we just keep going?"
Brian said, "Let me check." He got back with me and said, "Yeah I can help you that way."
Sometimes little superstitions... sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

As noted above, he did indeed say that and was able to have it changed. That doesn't mean he has to agree with the superstition though. He's obviously got a team that was uncomfortable in the jerseys and coach that wants all the luck he can get and Burke has to make a choice between simply allowing a different jersey than was planned, or taking a stance against all superstition. This is professional sports, you're never going to quel out superstition, so I would think he went with the lesser of two evils.

If someone called a blowhard a "blowhard" you would take that as his opinion. When someone continues to call a blowhard a "blowhard" you would take that as petty.
Speaking on petty well done on taking things one step further and including me in your nonsensical rant.

Johnny's skillset and IQ will stand so far above the rest at camp, I don't see how it'd be possible they don't seriously consider him.
But I won't be upset with a few months in Adirondack. Whatever will help him be best prepared to become a full time NHLer.

Did anyone ask if we're going to start seeing Cassie around the Dome?

Maybe Cassie can fire back at Glenn Healy whenever he trashes the Flames on HNIC from now on.

When has he given any opportunity for one to stop calling him a blowhard? His mouth is perpetually open. If it was closed, I would be happy and wouldn't be calling him anything.
By the way, first mention of the word "blowhard" ITT was yours.

I mentioned blowhard in my post rather than repeat every adjective that has been used towards him in this thread. You said in your last post that Burke is a blowhard which is why I used the term as it's common to his detractors. Burke had his detractors here well before he was employed by the Flames but now he is going to be here for the foreseeable future it's going to get really tiring hearing the same recycled rhetoric over and over.

Agreed. Burke has talked about it multiple times on how tiny Gaudreau is. In the NHL, for the most part, they are professional players, and are looking to make a good, hard hit. In the AHL, I'd be more worried about some goon wanting to make a name for himself, or knowing it's his last year and he just wants to hurt a superstar.

Sorry, goons aren't going to prevent him from getting blasted. Someone isn't going to have a chance to plow him, and then abort, because there's a tough guy on the team. It's false equivalence.

At this stage they are trying not to have a Sven 2.0 occurring. Burke mentioned last night that the previous regime liked to hype prospects and that got the fans all riled up. Look at how far Sven has fallen from being the future franchise player to longer term project/top 6 forward.
This regime I think is going to under promise and over deliver when it relates to handling the prospects.

My opinion of a man is subject to change, but not due to who is employing him.

Johnny took a late cross check from behind that sent him flying near the boards in one WC game I watched. He was watching the play up ice and wasn't aware of the guy speeding up behind him. He got right back up but I was holding my breath. He'll definitely need to be alert to cheap shot artists. Goons might prevent him being roughed up unduly but they won't save him from hits and cross checks.

Yeah. I have no idea how the goon protecting skill players mantra is still alive. This isn't the 80's.

So you don't think the Flames players are protected by having Westgarth and Brian McGrattan in the line up? You don't think the players feel more secure knowing those two are there. The stats they talked about that the Flames were hit less once those two were both in the lineup are false?

They may feel better, but no, there is no evidence they are better protected. I'd be curious to see these hit stats, and the sample size would be too small to assume the cause as a goon in the lineup.
