That's really cool. It would be neat to see more contests like that. I've always thought the Saddledome aspect was on purpose.

The player plays for the logo on the front of the jersey, not the number on the back.

I like this attitude. It should be about the team. Sure, numbers are a small part of the equation, but building an elite team is about a thousand tiny details as much as it is about a few big issues.

A number of members on this board have served in the Armed Forces. To be clear I have not, and I am not qualified to speak for them. But ask those who have served, how many lives were saved by having a bunk so tight you can bounce a quarter off of it. I bet the answer is none. I also expect they will support its importance, as one of a thousand details of discipline and team work that, taken as a whole, does save lives.

That's my 2c. Could be a load of rubbish, could be a gem of wisdom. 50/50 chance of either. Well, 51/49 for the rubbish.

Here is the order I noticed Conroy breakdown the top prospects tonight
1. Ekblad - long career ahead, pretty much a lock to be a solid player
2. Reinhart - Smart player amazing playmaker
3. Draisaitl - Kopitar like, great backhand passer

4. Bennett- gritty, competes

5. Ritchie- Lucic, Bertuzzi like winger

It seems like the way he described Bennett is he was slightly below the other 3. Ritchie also did not seem like a consensus. Conroy looked over to Burke and said Ritchie but he didn't seem convinced.

I think the Flames are certainly taking one of the big 4

A minimum of two enforcers?

Minimum, like, ideally you'd have more?

Why would any team want more than one?

The event tonight was great. The food spread and offering was generous and appreciated. The meeting wasn't as informative as past meeting with Jay Feester who basically spelled out the strategy. The answers were all common sense and didn't offer any major insight to the direction.

What I noticed is that Treliving is extremely thorough, mentally focused and terminator like in his approach. Also, the fact of his experience at the NHL level, but more importantly the junior level, will really give us an advantage in drafting and player development, which the Flames have been thoroughly lacking.

I liked the consensus between Burke and Treliving on the above and their common thread of drafting correctly and developing correctly.

While the entire management crew was able to crack some good jokes, Burke by far was the most unpredictable. He was funny, smart and looked like he just ate an old spice deodorant bar. He's very personable and down to earth and not as prickly as he comes off on TV with the sound bites.

I have to stop reading these types of things, because half of the things that come out of Burke's mouth annoy me.

Every time Burke opens his mouth, pure, unadulterated hypocritical stupidity pours out.

He should really stop.

Burke took a small shot at Feaster. He mentioned how the past regime overhyped and over promised especially with prospects.

There was not a tin of hype for the kids just hyping their development strategy which is players likely have to spend time in the AHL

I like the idea of all numbers under 35 or 40. However I also like only rookies that have not made the team full time to use high numbers. They change to a lower number when they make the team.

Like what, exactly?

I respect the guy for having passion for the game and a strong opinion on just about everything. Better that than the wishy-washy politically correct answers we used to get. You may disagree with what he says, but at least you know where he stands.

Brian Burke could have lost his voice and not said a word and the posters in the "I don't like Burke" camp would still feel the need to tell us what a blowhard he is.

Did they have door prizes? I went the last 2 years and they had some pretty cool stuff.

I'm going next Tuesday night. Looking forward to it!

Yes. The lunch one yesterday seemed to be gift bags (unknown contents since I didn't win) and third jerseys. There was one stick.

Nah. Very nonsensical really. For someone to be a blowhard, one has to blow hard, which Burke often does. If he stopped blowing hard, he would cease to be a blowhard.

It would be impressive to see how quickly you would pat yourself on the back if that happened though.
