Really? Its that black and white for you? Trading Bio now is a terrible move. I don't care about McDavid so much that every good player and leader on the team needs to be traded.
Let the chips fall where they may. Gio is one man on a team of 18. He won't be the deal breaker on whether or not the Flames have a shot at McDavid or Eichel.
For myself its quite simple, you don't trade your leaders when you're trying to build a culture of success. Especially when theyre doing things the right way. Hyped prospects or not. The end goal is to win, and some kid isn't the answer, its the team overall .
Let's see how the season goes with the leadership they have. What you're proposing is tearing apart what was already a good foundation culture wise. Which is what fans were complaining about in the first place, a stale leadership core.
Behind MacDavid and Eichel there are 6-10 more solid quality players available in next years draft. Any of them will do just fine.

And when the NHL takes away the Flames 1st round draft pick because they are under the Salary Cap Floor would you still be happy the Flames traded Giordano?
I don't know what the actually penalties would be for being under the cap floor, but I don't think you have taken in consideration the salary cap floor in your thinking.

I don't think you read his argument very well. If we are under the floor, you just fix it, you know, like how you fix the floor in a house. It's as simple as ordering some lino and bam! hockey team

So far, I have been ostracized for using CAPS, point form, spelling and grammar. Is this a hockey forum or an old ladies church bizzare? Unfrickenbelieveable.

I love Gio as much as the next guy but he's not getting any younger and his trade value is high.
Understand that even though he provides great leadership 3 years from now he may not be here and if he is he won't be nearly as good IMO.

The whole, buy low, sell high argument is way over-used.
A hockey team is not a stock portfolio, When you sell a stock, that doesn't impact the other stocks in your portfolio.
Also, your portfolio is inert. A hockey team has to actually go out and play games.
Yes, Giordano's value is high. But the team needs good players. Having players like Giordano helps the younger players. In other words, holding on to the one stock increases the value of the other stocks.
Trading Giordano for Ekblad is overpayment. Sure, that could be fixed by Florida adding. But there is no telling how much the Flames team would be damaged in the process.
To simply say: "well it means we'll get McDavid next year" is incredibly naive. One, even if we finished dead last, there is only a 25% chance of it happening. Two, no one knows where we'll finish if we don't make the trade. And three, it is impossible to say how much it might negatively impact our other prospects.
Players don't learn how to play in the NHL simply by being thrown out there (well, some can - most don't). They need veterans to show them what is required.
Brodie and Wotherspoon will develop faster, and more thoroughly, by having guys like Giordano to learn from. You throw Brodie and Ekblad out there and tell them to be NHLers and you're as likely to ruin them as not.

People disagreeing with what you say does not indicate a lack of reading comprehension.

Why is everyone so worried about the cap. There are some UFA's we could sign. There WILL be many teams looking to dump salaries. Treviling specifically made mention of this fact, not me. "We are open for business" Brian Burke. He has also alluded to the same thing at the past trade deadline. Am I wrong or just informed?

If you are trading your best dman, one of the best in the league, and your captain, only to take on bad contracts and/or overpay unworthy UFAs in order to fill the cap space, you are going backwards.
They were "open for business" and didn't end up doing anything. With Burke philosophy and competitivness in trading, that tells you that there was nothing worth doing. Just like MacT's "bold moves" comment, you need another team to work with you in order to deliver on those things.
I can't stress enough how dumb I think it would be to trade Giordano right now.

No, but you said that trading Gio equates to landing McDavid. Which is not only untrue, it is not even necessarily a good move even if you knew you were getting McDavid back.

I'm not here to change opinions as this is just a forum however consider if we never traded joe n for Jarome. We would never have had likely the best captain in flames history.
This isn't a time to make hasty decisions however this is the time to make educated risks and if ekblad can deliver as a number 1 or 2 d man for 10 years or more shoring up the backend that would be a steal of a deal IMO.
