I remember working on Barlow Trail.
"Hey, how do I get to your business? I'm on Barlow at 114th right now"
"Okay, so just keep taking Barlow north. Then it just kind of ends, so follow it onto deerfoot north, then exit off memorial east, then turn right immediately, then left at the lights and Heyyyoooo, you're back on Barlow! Now keep going north......."

Thats probably true, Someone had a good map in either the gear grider thread or one of the latte sipper threads that catagorized the city into about 15 different regions that worked well for talking about where you live.

Seeing the Game of Thrones thread getting bumped constantly today and not getting to view because I haven't seen the newest episode yet...that really grinds my gears. The urge to click is so strong!!

I remember a few different version of those, couldn't find the one about quadrants just the gems about the people that live in those areas. "Still hood yo" on 80% of the east side of the city

this past weekend i played in a fun co-ed hockey tournament. there is a massive range of skill level in this tournament... you have some people that are really weak on their skates (i don't think they know how to stop yet... seriously) and then there are others who currently play in men's div 2 in the organized kelowna league (i play div 3). the key is that the better players have to tone it waaaaay down so everyone has fun. for the most part everyone gets this, but there's always a couple guys that don't.
the one guy on my team was telling me i needed to try harder so that we could win. it was everything in my power to not laugh in his face. i guess he didn't like that if a girl got a shot on goal i pretty much did what i could to kick/knock a rebound back to her so she could get another shot and i didn't care if i ended up getting beaten - we're here to have a good time! at one point he actually said to me, 'you're the best goalie in this tournament right?' (basically insinuating that i should be playing like it's mens league playoffs or something) my response was, 'yea, i play the highest level of hockey of all the goalies... which just means i need to tone it down more than all the others.' he just looked at me with a dumbfounded look on his face not knowing what to say to that.
there was a guy on one of the other teams that i know from men's league - off the opening faceoff he gets the puck, dangles around everyone and then cuts around the net and scores. ok - whatever... you're a hero and you have a 1-0 lead... i don't care. he was fine for the remainder of the 1st. opening draw in the second he does pretty much the same thing, but banks his shot in off one of my d-men (actually... d-lady). i skate over to my one d-man and ask, 'is he actually trying?' and my d-man just smiles at me. so i reply, 'ok - i guess i'll actually try the next time he comes in.' ...so i did and shut him down for the rest of the game. i had to laugh becuz he was trying soooo hard towards the end of the game to tie it up and each time i was thinking in my head, 'nope!'
after the game the guy said to me, 'you sure got lucky a few times.' to which i replied, 'na, i just tried a little.'

Quite a bit of subtle brag going on in this post haha

no bragging was intended. the reason why i get asked to play is becuz i can just go out and goof around and don't really care when i get scored on
the goalie should not be one of the fastest skaters on the ice... not a brag, but a fact

Reminds me of when you write a long email, include attachments, and the recipient replies all; quoting the entire email along with all of the attached files and just writes "thanks".

It's 11:45pm and we just finished our rec league game. I hate when at the end of a game, if a team is losing, some unemployed bums start getting violent. Like seriously get a life, it's 11pm on a Monday. I know you don't have to get up in the morning or have all fataing day to sit in a dr office but get a job you ridiculous loser. Nobody cares that you're upset about nothing that matters, it's rec hockey.

So we get a call at Firehall 18 at 5 this morning for a vehicle fire on Deerfoot and 64th.
Dispatch tells me it is a semi and I ask for another Engine in case it's fully involved.
We turn south on Deerfoot and I see the semi,no smoke or fire, but there was oil everywhere.
I specifically told our dispatch there was no fire and I cancelled the other Engine. The driver was able to limp the truck off deerfoot before it shut down on the McKnight turn off.
So I'm driving home and I hear on the radio there was a semi on fire at Deerfoot and 64th.I know the media listens to our scanners but wtf?? Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story I guess.

The quality of what passes for "journalism" has taken a huge nose dive in the past 2 years in my opinion. I mean news/reporting have never been able to get all the facts right, but it seems like most media outlets have laid of all their fact checkers, and honestly don't even pretend to bother anymore.
As much as I love twitter I'm sick of seeing stories like "locals upset with traffic delays!" followed by 15-20 embedded tweets.

Traffic reports on the radio in Calgary have become very poor recently.
Last week (I think it was Tuesday), I was listening to a station in the morning to try to catch a traffic report and they mentioned that there was a stall on Memorial eastbound at 14th Street. I decided to take Kensington Road and 14th Street and they were correct with their report. Traffic was backed up way down Memorial (probably to Crowchild.) The next morning I hear a traffic report again on a different station and they mention a stall on Memorial at 14th. WTF again! I took Kensington Road to 14th again but this time traffic was flowing freely down Memorial and there was no stall. The station was reporting the previous days traffic. Terrible!

Someone at my work just quit. Her and I were probably one of the more busy people in the office. Today I found out that I get to take over their job, whilist keeping all of my current responsibilites and the same pay and title.
Yay.

You know this can be a positive. Should like you are not in love with your place of emplolyment.
If you are in an industry/job/position that is in demand, go to you employer and tell them you want a raise.

This happened to a friend of mine. At 5pm that day he grabbed a Car2go and emptied his office of his belongings and came in the next morning with a letter of resignation effective immediately and ended up still getting his two week pay.
I bought him a beer for that.

That's when you ask them for a raise. If they say no you now know your worth to them and you start looking for a better place to work.
