I don't even stop for them anymore. If they're not at a corner or a cross walk I blare the horn and go around. I know that Canada's pedestrian laws are backwards and I'm technically supposed to stop, but I don't care anymore.
This neighbourhood sucks. So glad I live in the south.

I'm talking municipally not geographically. I thought we all came to the agreement that that was a thing. Might have been Beyond.
However;
North of Glenmore and East of Deerfoot = NE Calgary.
In fact, that leads me to another gear grinder. Meeting someone off kijiji, agreeing to meet them when he says his address is in the SW. I think "Oh SW, that won't take me long to get too" then he tells me his address is on 7ave ave SW... Yeah I know the address says SW in it, but that's not SW. Woodbine or Evergreen or something would be SW, 7 Ave is too central to consider SW imo.

Idiot drivers who block crosswalks while thinking they can squeeze in a right turn on a red between pedestrians RGMG.
Stupid woman this morning stops at a light that just turned red (stopped behind the cross walk.) Before the pedestrians, waiting on the corner on the corner to cross, were given the right of way she pulls forward blocking off 3/4's of the cross walk forcing the pedestrians to walk around in front of her Jeep. I was crossing from the far side and when I was about three feet away about to walk in front of her Jeep she pulls up even further blocking off the entire cross walk. I put up my arms and gave her a WTF! Cross traffic was busy and there was no way this impatient biatch was going to make a right turn on the red.

people who can't "turn off the competitiveness" in a fun tournament rgmg
this past weekend i played in a fun co-ed hockey tournament. there is a massive range of skill level in this tournament... you have some people that are really weak on their skates (i don't think they know how to stop yet... seriously) and then there are others who currently play in men's div 2 in the organized kelowna league (i play div 3). the key is that the better players have to tone it waaaaay down so everyone has fun. for the most part everyone gets this, but there's always a couple guys that don't.
the one guy on my team was telling me i needed to try harder so that we could win. it was everything in my power to not laugh in his face. i guess he didn't like that if a girl got a shot on goal i pretty much did what i could to kick/knock a rebound back to her so she could get another shot and i didn't care if i ended up getting beaten - we're here to have a good time! at one point he actually said to me, 'you're the best goalie in this tournament right?' (basically insinuating that i should be playing like it's mens league playoffs or something) my response was, 'yea, i play the highest level of hockey of all the goalies... which just means i need to tone it down more than all the others.' he just looked at me with a dumbfounded look on his face not knowing what to say to that.
there was a guy on one of the other teams that i know from men's league - off the opening faceoff he gets the puck, dangles around everyone and then cuts around the net and scores. ok - whatever... you're a hero and you have a 1-0 lead... i don't care. he was fine for the remainder of the 1st. opening draw in the second he does pretty much the same thing, but banks his shot in off one of my d-men (actually... d-lady). i skate over to my one d-man and ask, 'is he actually trying?' and my d-man just smiles at me. so i reply, 'ok - i guess i'll actually try the next time he comes in.' ...so i did and shut him down for the rest of the game. i had to laugh becuz he was trying soooo hard towards the end of the game to tie it up and each time i was thinking in my head, 'nope!'
after the game the guy said to me, 'you sure got lucky a few times.' to which i replied, 'na, i just tried a little.'

Evergreen and Woodbine aren't really Southwest either, they are the South, and the Deep South. The SW should be reserved for the Couger ridge areas west of Sarcee.

The media doesn't help with this either. "(insert incident here) in the city's southwest". And where does it end up being? 10 metres off Centre Street in Chinatown. It is actually quicker and more concise to just say "Bowness" or "Silver Springs" or "Beddington" that it is to say "in the city's northwest".
The city has a tonne of community names - use those instead. Quadrants are fine for locating exact addresses on numbered roads, but describing a place in sprawling city of a million into only 4 places instead of actual districts is a bit useless in most cases.

To me that makes more sense to just call plain "west". It's hardly even south, cougar ridge is even further north than downtown

Yes, but if they said "Beltline" or "Downtown" that wouldn't make all the people in Evergreen tune in longer to see if it happened in their neighbourhood.

That's exactly it. Online is the same. From tweet, to headline, to first sentence - all vague. Just fishing for clicks. Still grinds my gears though.

Fun fact : Canada Olympic Park is technically "in the city's southwest".

Everyone considers things a little bit differently. I consider the developments west of Sarcee Trail as being "west side" while the SW is east of Sarcee down to Anderson Rd. South of Anderson you get into the "deep south."

Always found that funny. It's SW, despite being parallel to 31 ave NW, and off 16ave N

I've always found it odd that there is a portion of Bowness Road in Kensington (or Westmount officially.)

How about the 3 separate unattached Barlow Trails? or the 2 totally unattached Sarcee Trails. Thats gotta be confusing for non-locals.

"Roads" I don't have a problem with, because their name traditionally describes where they're going. Port road takes you to the port, Banff Coach road took you to Banff etc. Similar to Calgary Trail, Edmonton Trail, etc. Bowness Road originally would have taken you from Calgary to the town of Bowness. Eventually, when Bowness got amalgamated, they just renamed the portion in Bowness so it was one road without changing names halfway.

When my cousin from Ontario visited in the 80s, he thought we were incredible hayseeds for calling our streets "trails".
