I bought my 3DS XL when it was the Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds limited edition.
Pretty fun game, easy if you still remember Link to the Past.

Pokemon X/Y is pretty good, an overhaul from their previous versions. But I'm tired of trying to catch them all and relying on previous versions and the Global Trade Centre to get some legendary pokemon.

Battery is bad, and I never use the 3D option.

But don't buy the 2DS, that thing looks like a label maker.

Agree with first reply. My preference is for the 3DS, but that really comes down to what you intend to play.

My Vita is pretty much just a Final Fantasy rig. I bought it specifically to play the Final Fantasy X remake (great game), but also downloaded FF VI - IX. Bought MLB13 and hated it. Also picked up the God of War collection, but the touchpad on the back is a little hokey (this causes problems with scrolling in FF VI as well). The hardware is nice though.

3DS I use for Mario and Zelda games primarily, plus a bunch of NES/SNES/Game Boy favourites. I rarely use the 3D part though. Like most gimmicks, it starts off neat but quickly becomes annoying.

Vita just doesn't have enough truly compelling software to make it worth it. There's some cool/quirky Japanese games and Media Molecule has released two of the best portable games ever on the platform (LBP Vita and Tearaway), but that's really it. I'm mainly a console gamer so anything available on Vita and PS3/PS4 will be played on my TV.

I can't think of a single upcoming, must-have, Vita-only game.

I love my Vita whenever I play it. It's built beautifully and the screen is gorgeous.

My 3DS (original) feels like it's going to fall apart in my hands. It's not a well-made piece of hardware.

It's unfortunate that I find myself playing it more than the Vita however.

One other thing to keep in mind that the Vita requires Sony's proprietary memory cards, and that they will gouge you on them. Expect to pay up to 4x the cost of an equivalent SD card, which is what the 3DS not only supports, but is included (4GB card, according to Future Shop).

My son has a 3DS and it comes off to me as a poorly made product with a terrible screen. I am interested in playing the old psone games too.

Then as Chemgear notes, you'll have to act reasonably soon if you hope to find a 1000 model. When I went looking for mine a couple months ago, none of Future Shop, Best Buy, EB games had any. I would suggest checking out Walmart (especially one on the outskirts of town) if you want to buy new and local rather than used and/or online.

Awesome. You might also want to keep an eye out on this website . . . if it is your thing.

I have both and the 3DS is used more. Nintendo's games seem better on the mobile device, the Vita games just don't seem to cut it. All of that is a shame since the second thumb stick has so much promise.

Everything I have heard has been VERY positive. Almost universal praise. For what it is worth, metacritic is 9.3/9.2 for both critic and user reviews. I need to make time to play it myself.

I do feel like the original 3DS is a poor version to have. The XL feels much better in your hands and the larger screen size doesn't really sacrifice much in quality even though it's stretching those pixels. Also, this 3DS XL is awesome:

Finding myself cramping really quickly with the Vita versus the 3DS XL.

Actually trying to work something out with diemenz for a trigger grip. Can't imagine how the slim would feel though without a grip.

I picked it up when the flash sale had it at 4.99 and also have yet to play it. With playstation plus the monthly 2-3 free games has me lagging behind lol.

On a related note I cannot stress enough how well watchdogs plays on the vita. I have actually played it more on the vita then I have on the PS4.

Was coming to post the same thing.

Watch Dogs is great on the Vita, control scheme translates well.

Felt the same thing with AC. Ubisoft is actually embracing the remote play on the Vita and designing the control schemes to make it work well.

I find my XBox One gets used the least because I end up playing the most on either the Wii U gamepad or with the Vita via remote play.
