First post is bang on. If you are actually planning to play games on it the 3DS is the way to go. The game libraries arent even comparable.

Which is really unfortunate as Sony really nailed the hardware. For the few games they do have it really is a treat to play on the device.

The Vitas library is getting quite impressive itself now though. I have a hard time picking which one I like more, I enjoy them both

Depends which games you want to play. If you like the classic Zelda, Mario, Pokemon and Donkey Kong games, 3DS has great new games from all those titles

The Vita has lots of legit console experience games, some that I've really had fun with are LittleBigPlanet, Killzone, Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Assasins Creed Liberation, Persona 4, Guacamelee, Rayman Origin/Legends and Wipeout. I havent tried the Borderlands 2 port yet. There's also a lot of ports like the God of War collection, the Sly Cooper collection, Limbo and Spelunky, as well as almost the entire PS1 library. 3DS also has a bunch of classics to pick from

It really comes down to which games you prefer. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd take my Vita at the moment. Main reason why are the Vitas more comfortable to hold, PS+ loads both mine and my GFs Vitas up with games with 1 account (3DS can't share an account) and the Vitas library is better for me than the 3DS at this point. The biggest games I was interested in on 3DS disappointed me (Pokemon and Animal Crossing) but I still play Mario 3D Land all the time and Ocarina of Time will always be great

The FFX HD remake is really impressive on Vita. The games that support cross play are really cool too - really nice to be able to play a game on your Playstation on your TV and sync the progress onto your Vita for the road. They need more games like that for sure.

I have purchased both in the last few months- the vita more recently, and I think I prefer the vita. I wanted the 3DS for the classic games and played the heck out of all my childhood favourites over the first couple months, but haven't touched it in a while now. The PS4 link is the biggest benefit for me on the Vita, and I use it all the time.

I wish new games on both systems were a little cheaper.

Playing watchdogs and my other PS4 games makes vita the winner for me. And yes I also owned both.

I have barely bought any new games at full price on Vita, there's sales fairly frequently and PS+ has at least 1 game a month I want to play. Recently I finished Thomas Was Alone, and I've been playing Limbo, Velocity, Street Fighter vs Tekken and Hotline Miami mostly

One other good thing about the 3DS is it can play DS games, so that bulks up the library quite a bit and you can find them for cheaper. Still play Super Mario 64 frequently

I think I am going Vita and the old version actually. The OLED screen is just too damn nice compared to the LCD. One hour battery life difference is not a game breaker for me.

FWIW some reviewers have said that the old version is a little more comfortable to hold as the slim version can be a little cramped, especially for big hands.

I own multiple 3DS's and Vita's (I'm nuts). 3DS has a very large back library if you've been with the whole DS phase as well. But Vita gets used way more these days for me especially with the remote play function. PS+ along with indie games is also amazing for it.

WW sales and NPD numbers for the Vita are pretty grim though. Price of memory cards is tough to swallow for some. I'd highly recommend the 64 GB ones if you can afford it.

Still a lot of (localized) Japanese support for it though - albeit with little advertising about it though. Mind Zero just came out but I doubt anybody even really noticed. Monster Monpiece is also out but that is a lot more . . . NSFW or the playing in public.

You may wish to hurry, I believe they are phasing or have phased out Vita 1000 in most stores. I haven't seen one in person for a while now.

I have the old one and battery life hasn't ever been an issue for me, I'd also go with the better screen

If you're going to go with the Vita I recommend signing up for PS+. $50 for 1 year and right now you'll instantly get Uncharted, Gravity Rush (awesome game,) Wipeout, PixelJunk Monsters, Limbo, Surge, Stealth Inc, Thomas Was Alone and Lone Survivor all free. In June Terraria and Mutant Mudds will be added also

This is also a long thread but it pretty much goes through everything about the Vita 2000 that you might want to know.

I have owned both versions and currently have the 2000. This is my take.

The screens were almost identical I couldn't tell the difference beyond the 1000 having slightly better color and the 2000 having slightly better blacks.

Comfort, no contest the 1000 was way more comfortable. I had to buy a grip for the 2000 just to play borderlands, without the grip my hands cramped in under an hour.

Battery, never had an issue with either so 1 hour doesn't make a difference.

Triggers, 2000 triggers are better. The 1000 triggers are good don't get me wrong but they have to be depressed further then the 2000 triggers to get the same effect.

Back panel, with a grip the 2000 back panel works flawless for me, without a grip it works decent as well. The 1000 back panel seems more sensitive and I found myself making more accidental presses.

Overall I feel that the differences are so minor that either one is a good choice.

Dammit chemgear, so it was you! Thought I was quick enough to see the thread but too bad.

Can't speak about the Vita too extensively because I only had owned one for a little bit, but even with the wealth of titles that the Vita now has access to, I can't say any of them are system sellers.

The 3DS on the other hand, zero regret as an impulse purchase when Pokemon X/Y came out even though I haven't finished Pokemon due to franchise fatigue. Numerous titles I've still yet to fully get my teeth into that I can pour hundreds of hours into.

Yet the PS4 remote play with the Vita? Automatic win for me.

Solution? Either have a Sony built 3DS that does remote play and PS+ or own both.
