Yeah, I guess the economic lexicon is a bit odd and could lead to some incorrect conclusions about how I go about things. All I'm really trying to say is that Calgary's escorts section on backpage is depressing. World class city my ass.
(in seriousness the term "return on investment" applies equally to platonic friendships and really all interpersonal relationships)

Not saying he is right on his claims, but girls brains and boys brains are certainly different. Girls brains tend to more easily recognize emotions and identify when people are closely connected compared to men, and this can lead to them having a better time communicating than men, because, to put it bluntly, we are often more dense when it comes to these things.
That said, these things are not hard wired, as he was saying.

Yeah, and I agree with all of that. I'm just not willing to concede that nay of these studies have been so specific as to say women enjoy talking about themselves more than men. I'd even accept women enjoy talking in general more than men, but talking about themselves seems like a stretch.

I don't think that women just enjoy talking about themselves, it is just easier to get them to open up about themselves than it is to get them to ask you questions. From experience I would say generally women talk way more (having 2 daughters and a wife who are all chatterboxes). I am the more quiet one in my house.

My unmarried self would have found it interesting, not sure how I'd react. Not only is the guy nervous, the girl is put on the spot too.

Last time I cold approached a girl, it wasn't for my benefit lol.
My co-worker is incredibly shy around girls. Can barely get a word out. We were on a work trip to Toronto and decided to stay the weekend to check out the sites since I had never been to Toronto before.
Saturday night, we hit up some club downtown. I'm taken, so gallivanting about with women is out of the question for me. However, I kept trying to convince my co-worker to go chat up some girls, but he just refused, saying it was really tough thing for him to do. I got fed up with him, and decided to approach a girl for him. I straight up walked up to this tall attractive girl, struck up a conversation with her and managed to convince her to dance with my friend. Unfortunately that was as far as we got. She danced with him, but he did not say a single word to her lol.
Lead the horse to water and all that jazz I guess.

Yeah for sure. I was more looking for a reason to pull out, "Well why don't you ask him?"
I talk with my GF about this sometimes as she tells me stories about her friends and the guys they hang out with. And almost every single problem they have can be solved by just actually asking questions of the guy, or telling them what they want.
Most women seem to think that guys can read their minds fo stuff like this, or that were supposed to pick up on subtle signals like playing with hair or saying something a particular way. In my experience, most guys are pretty simple when it comes to this stuff. Tell us how you feel and we will react in a way we deem appropriate, but expecting us to somehow know the intricate workings of the mind of a woman without any actual interaction is just futile.
This also applies to the age old "you know what you did". No we don't. And whatever we said that made you really mad, we forgot about as soon as it left our mouths 2 weeks ago.
