Yeah, no. He attends events based on the purpose of the event. I know first hand.

Chalk me up as someone who is displeased with Nenshi, in particular for his seemingly tax-happy attitude, but one thing I'll give him is he acts with integrity, even if he acts like a bully once once in a while.

Bunk do you work near anyone responsible for pathway closures/signage?

This week was a total joke.

For a bunch of commuters coming from the East side of downtown, there is a pathway closure at Sien Lok (sp?) park, and a road closure on 2nd ave that makes that area a bit of a pain. No big deal.

Just go home across Prince's Island bridge and use the North river path, right?

Wrong.

Head East on the North river path, and you are greeted with a "Sidewalk closed" sign at the Centre Street underpass. Not really sure what that means... the gates aren't closed, like when the water is high or there is construction, and the underpass is totally passable. There is a "Sidewalk closed" sign on the other side too, facing the other way. No biggy.

But there's more...

Now there is a section of orange construction fencing, strung from the curb all the way to the river bank.

So either you turn back and go all the way back to Prince's Island, or you hop onto a very busy Memorial Drive so you can walk/bike/run around this stretch of fence. Don't worry, there is a second one later on too.

Oh and everything is closed at Memorial/Edmonton trail to finish off your lovely ride.

I understand construction is necessary, and all of the river bank rehab probably has some pretty tight timelines, but letting people head halfway home before finding out their route is impassible is really dumb. You probably have people out right now trying bike commuting for the first time if this is their first spring in the area and they are not going to feel like this is a city trying to encourage active mode commuting.

Dumping people out onto a busy roadway with no warning just seems downright dangerous. Cars aren't expecting to have to deal with people hopping on to the road on that stretch of Memorial.

What's the deal?

That whole stretch of the Bow pathway northside is part of my bike commute to work I was about to start doing again. I'm trying to figure out alternate routes to make my way to the NE now.

How far east are you? I'd highly suggest getting on the South bank either via the Peace Bridge or Prince's Island. It's not the most wonderful right now but it's far and away better than the mess on the North bank. If you cross back over at Langevin you should be able to work something out, although heading further East than Edmonton Trail looks like further detouring is required.

I have to go from Sunnyside east to the nose creek path, I then take that up to the Calgary Sun and 12th street NE to work.

I guess I could always climb the bluff right away by the curling club and make my way east up high before dropping back into the valley on nose creek. That hill on the bluff first thing though...ugh.

Speaking of Bow River pathways, is there any timeline on when the path along the West bank of the Bow between Deerfoot Trail/Anderson Road and Glenmore Trail is going to reopen?

For what it's worth, here's the suggested detour the city's Twitter account posted: http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Doc...l-langevin.pdf

It does not seem like something that should be very difficult to solve which is frustrating.

Oh ya and the overpaid boob who is in charge of directing traffic sitting in his law chair checking his phone as people on their bikes wondering if they are breaking the law.
I swear, someone is doing it to eff with us for their own twisted amusement. Everywhere else I've been manages closures much better than Calgary does.

Thanks for finding that and posting it up!

Not too bad as far as detours go, and I can hit up some Bridgeland goodness on my ride home.

Today was also awesome.

People crossing Memorial and walking along the dirt path that goes over the Langevin were yelled at by the woman who's job is to be a post for the stop sign she's holding to go back, wait to cross back over memorial, then walk through the Esso/Starbucks parking lot, then cross Memorial. This way she could keep a 5 foot wide stretch of gravel people would have to walk over "closed" and "what don't you understand about detours?"

A detour that requires you to wait for a very long light cycle, cross one of the busier intersections in the city, read a sign, and turn around and cross back over, is not a good detour.

Bunk, I am looking to have an overhead crane built for a metal working shop in a commercial condo, what kind of permit(s) would be required for this?

I'm guessing a building permit, but I would set up an e-appointment and ask the Planning Services Technician at the City.

Bunk, I know it is provincial.

But could you suggests the city pushes for a dual lane turn from Glenmore East to Stoney North. After you make the turn the Ramp is 2 lanes for like a KM, and the lane backs up for several turns of the light with the single lane turn.

Stoney was a good bypass route for Deerfoot, for a few months. The wait just to get onto Stoney has gone from a minute or two, to nearly 10 minutes, Now that more people are using it.

I've noticed that the new black police vehicles don't have have the non-emergency police number on them. Do you know why? Always thought it was a good idea that the number was on the old cruisers.
