Phaneuf being shopped by the Leafs
https://twitter.com/realkyper/status/465648785163448321
Leafs want to trade him out west. No way Leafs get this done without taking back salary on his 7 year 49 million dollar extension kicking in for 2014-15. Would Flames fans welcome Dion back at 5 million per?

EDM : 3rd overall for Phaneuf? Oilers probably wouldn't make the Leafs retain salary lol.

Maybe Kyper misunderstood.
Phaneuf is being Photoshopped by the Leafs.

Wil Burke want him - that's the 7mill question.

The only benefit I see with Dion coming back to Calgary, is for fans to be able to dust off their old Phaneuf jerseys. Maybe also to hit the cap floor a little easier.
Would love to see him in Oilers threads, and for the 3rd overall to go out east.

Shanahan spent a lot of time with Kessel recently. I think Shanny got feedback Dion has to go.
The Leafs will be worse for this move though.

I think Shanahan sees what everyone in the league sees. A bad captain who is a mediocre defenceman.

He's not worth his salary or his potential trade return.
He could also upset dressing room chemistry with that huge ego of his. Treliving has to be very conscious of players attitudes & building a team with a winning mentality. Phaneuf isn't the answer.
I for one would not want him in Edmonton though. Say what you will about Dion, but seeing him in those silks would be a sad day.
I reckon he'll go somewhere in California.

Wonder if he wishes that he took a pay cut with a full NMC now.

I wonder if Burke still sees him as a stud dman that he thought he was getting in that deal.
Or has watching him try to defend opened Burke's eyes

I think Sutter saved us, imagine if we still had him playing here? I can't imagine what CP would come too with his crap play in the last few years. At the time the Flames lost the trade, but over time, I don't think we did. I'd take Stajan as a character guy over Dion at 7mil and a detriment to our team allllllllllll ddddddaaaaayyyyy!

Don't kid yourself. That deal was and is absolutely abysmal for the Flames. Leafs came out of that laughing and, I am willing to bet, they will likely get more than what it cost if and when they do trade him.

Screw that. Leaf fans & media would be insufferable if they had two top-10 picks.
The leafs' 8th + Phaneuf for Edmonton's 3rd would be a lot better (meaning it's worse for the leafs, and still saddles EDM with the boat anchor contract).
