Let the man get treatment, that is of the utmost important.
However once he is done, if he re-enters the public eye we most certainly need to know where he was and the outcome of the treatment.
Personal demons are personal, if you voluntarily enter (or in this case re-enter) the public eye you forfeit the personal information to the public.

Ah yes, the celebrity tabloid approach to politics.

Well in this case I think it's fair. Ford said he's leaving to get treatment, if he re-enters politics he needs to demonstrate that he did. If he doesn't then let him be.

I don't think he's left politics. I may not be up on the latest but I understand he is still Mayor and is still running for re-election, so he should be open to answering some questions or at least passing on where and what he's doing to some reliable third party.

I'm not following *that* closely.
I was under the impression that he's off the grid while in rehab. In my mind (perhaps mistakenly so) if you're off the grid for treatment you're out of politics (even if on a temporary basis with the intention to continue public life).
Although if the link Bobblehead posted is correct, then he needs to say where he's at. Can't have it both ways.

What I don't understand is how these guys can function after a big night. Klein used to do it too; go on a bender, but work the next day. I can't even imagine the crack hangover Ford would be getting.
I drink 4 pints at a hockey game and I want to crawl into a hole and die the next day. Ford hits the pipe and then runs one of the biggest cities in NA? Does your body just get used to being f'd up all the time?

Rehab is 'amazing'.
Yeah, personally I don't think he's in rehab. He's just hiding out for a bit, taking the heat off and making it look good to resurrect his chances. I admit I could be wrong, but this feels as sketchy as everything else he's done so far. It's especially weird when you consider that whole trip to Chicago debacle.
He does have a right to privacy, but knowing the facility would go a LONG way in believing his story, which is what he wants from the public. If he plans on running for mayor again, and continuing his political career, which we know he does, a little bit of information would help that.
Does he have a right to his privacy? Hell yeah. But if he wants to continue being in the public eye and working for the public, do we have a reason to be skeptical? Absolutely. That's what people in the public eye often do, give you proof they are working on it. It doesn't have to be the whole celebrity thing, or reality star thing, but they often let you know what facility they are in.
Personally, I would be 'amazed', if he was in rehab right now.

It depends on the amount you smoke/how late into the night you go, but crack hangovers aren't that bad.

Yep it's conditioning, a couple years ago i was out partying 6-7 nights a week, never had a hangover or a problem being at work for 7am.
Now I've gotten bored with that, the couple times a month i go out I'm definitely not as spry the following morning.

Though it often doesn't feel like it, politicians do work for us. They are, at least in theory, employees of the people.
We have as much right to know about their rehab as my employer would have to know about mine if I was in a similar situation and hoped to one day come back to work. At least the people of Toronto in this case do but that makes it public knowledge so the rest of us "get to know" too.

That guy is a complete cluster****. How he got any woman to sleep with him speaks to a complete lack of self respect from those women.
He should just OD already so the largest city in the country can move on. He could take his gong show of a brother with him.
Yet again, I hate all these politicians so very much.

According to the CBC ticker, Rob Ford was 'spotted running errands in Ontario cottage country'.
Now, when you're in rehab, your pretty much sequestered to your facility are you not?

Here's his presser today.
http://globalnews.ca/news/1424411/wa...-to-city-hall/
I really hope this is all true, and, believe it or not, want to take him at face value, but it will take time. Even when you have an addict in your own family it takes time to trust that they are not lying to you. So we'll see what happens. For better or for worse, it won't take long.
One thing I would like to see, is for him to reach out to treatment centers in the inner city, now that he has admitted to his own addiction. I believe I remember, and maybe someone here can help me as I could be wrong, was that one of the areas he saved money on for the tax payers was for services like that downtown. Even making disparaging comments about addicts in the past. If he's truly learned from his mistakes, it'd be nice for him to reach out to the community that he is now part of. Not everyone comes from a wealthy family and can afford to go to a nice private center.

If he is sincere about doing what is best for his health, he will drop out of the race. Otherwise I don't buy that he has turned a new leaf.

I hope he's truly not lying and can finally conquer his demons. Having said that, if he gets re-elected back as Mayor, the people of Toronto are idiots.

If he gets re-elected he's going to go so far off the rails it will almost certainly lead to his death. He'll basically be told by the voters "Nope, nothing you did made us feel like you weren't a good mayor". He'd rightfully feel totally invincible.

Not a Ford fan by any means, and most here probably know that already. But I wonder if he has looked hard in the mirror, he might be a better mayor than he was previously? A little compassion and understanding in his policies might make him a decent candidate again.
A lot of 'ifs' in that, but just trying to see a little positive here. I still don't know what I think will actually happen, or even if he's truly working on himself. But as I said, we'll see in short order. It will be impossible to hide either way.
