Given we have pretentious posters who like to crap all over Calgary (despite, presumably, living here) for not being a 500 year old city with castles and two-century old stone bridges , I doubt that will prove much.

People have made a different choice than you, different, not better or worse, but different.
Yes. There is. I dont know how things work out in Sylvan Lake, but in Calgary there is a large number of people who depend on Calgary for their livelihoods but dont contribute back to the city. In small doses its no big deal, but its getting bigger and bigger via the half dozen or so little bedroom communities you just alluded to.

Its a serious problem and its a growing problem, and something is going to have to happen in the near future to deal with it.

Or what about when they use the city transit systems!!! they don't pay taxes for those, just the regular transit fares, it's rubbish, they're stealing seats from tax payers. And while we're on that note, lets ban tourists, they are a burden on infrastructure too, from now on, proof of residence is required to get into the Stampede. Heck, let's just ban tourism worldwide.

New rule, if you don't pay taxes for it, you're not allowed to touch it.
I dont know if you're being deliberately obtuse or if you're being sarcastic because what you wrote there is pretty much the problem.

And you know that when you buy something in Calgary the City doesnt get a cut right? Theres no civic or municipal sales tax on the purchase of goods and services or anything like that.

How do you think the City of Calgary is collecting fees from purchases? Magic?

Isn't that the way almost all other major cities operate though? Calgary is pretty unique where most of the suburbs are part of the actual city.

Ok, let's talk more about it.

What sort of "contribution" are you looking for. How is it a negative for Calgary that people work in the city but live in other towns/cities.

What is detrimental about that for Calgary?

Tonnes of places are like that/this.

Denver is a good example:

Pop of Denver is around 650,000
Pop Of Metro/Greater Denver is around 3,000,000

I once heard a stat that the City if London increased in population by a couple of million people during the work day (I have no source from this, other than the cockney fella that bought me a pint).

you guys realise that a lot of these places have amalgamated the suburbs and the city as part of a bigger group, and I wouldn't be shocked if it was because these bedroom communities start deteriorating the city.

Is this the new complex across from the new high school in Prairie Springs? I am curious what is going in there besides the 7-11 and the Royal bank.

Probably something super exciting like a Subway or a Domino's Pizza if you're lucky.

You know what else is a great example? Detroit.

Its a fairly simple concept: People cannot reap benefit and use the resources of Point A to then simply to take those benefits away from Point A and apply them to Point B.

Its an unsustainable model over the long-term for Point A.

A rise in suburban population was not the only reason for the decline in Detroit.

New York, seems to be doing ok, as do other cities.

Drove from my parking spot (5 min walk from my office) to my future house in Airdrie at 11am today. Took 23 minutes.

At rush hour that should be 40mins in good weather.

How long is the commute to Legacy in the south, or Silverado... how about Mackenzie Towne?

If you want new for less than a $MIL, you live far away.

Wow, now that's reading between the lines... who said anything about not being made, also, I don't use it. Maybe you should check your own bulb... It is quite inflated.

The school system in Airdrie has failed you:

Ok, Ok, you got me I have used the bridge; However, I do not rely on, depend on, or use on a daily, monthly, or yearly basis.

As for the school system, you are correct, it did fail me. Thanks for pointing that out.

Love the personal attacks.

lol. Calls MMF and makes fun of him for reading comprehension, saying he never said he uses the bridge, then admits that he did in fact say he used the bridge.

On top of that, tries to burn MMF by saying he should check his own bulb, because it's quite inflated. Whatever that means.

And as a final fail, he lives in Airdrie.
