Lol, yeah. Japanese Village and "Dial 2-7-3-7-3-7-3 Pizza 73!"
Best of luck in retirement, Peter. Fond memories of listening to you while growing up in northern BC, and will always remember your epic calls in '89 and '04!

Sad day for Flames fans.
At least he is going out when he is still one of the best in the business.

Always enjoyed listening to Flames games on the radio. Especially in the days since Whelan was no longer on TV. Hopefully the new TV crew is a real step up. As for the radio broadcast will be a real challenge to come anywhere near the class that was Peter Maher. Top of the heap.

Listening to his press conference saying he didn't want to have a final game cause the game isn't about him and he's just the messenger. That's why Peter Maher is one of the best, he respects the game and he is one of the classiest people I've met, even if it was only for a few minutes. Good luck in retirement Pete.

memories of laying in bed as a 12 year old with his voice lulling me to sleep as the game ended..as others have said not every game was televised on 2&7 so this was our go to when Ed wasnt on.

Not even a majority of games. In 1988-89, only 36 regular season games were televised. Any of us who grew up before the age of regional sportsnets grew up listening to Peter.

A couple old players wishing Pete well:
“@DGauthierRDS: Congrats to Peter Maher on a great career. Maybe the only man to witness all my 13 goals as a Flame. They were all beauties, just ask him😉”
“@calehulse32: Pete Maher will forever be THE voice of the @NHLFlames congrats on the Hall Of Fame career Pete, we will all miss hearing you”

You should check out Iceman and Habernac's podcast with him as the guest. I can't remember the site, but they have a thread a few pages back with links.
They asked him a bunch of questions. Lives in Phoenix now.

I asked them what the hell they were saying in that commercial when I was at Japanese Village one time.
It's 'Ah-So.' I means something in Japanese. But can't remember the meaning. It was vague.

Heh, I still fall asleep to the post-game show.
I remember when I was going to school in the States, I couldn't afford cable or internet at home, and with there being no local Flames radio of course, I would stay late at school to listen to the games online. My memory of the Flames winning Game 7 against Vancouver in 2004, was sitting alone in an empty school late into the night (2am?), listening to the game on my laptop. No friends or family around...just Peter and Mike Rogers. It was probably just me and the security guard in the building that night....but one of the best hockey moments of my life when I heard him call the Gelinas goal.

I was told it was "ah-so" a long time ago, but the kid in me always preferred it to be "awesome" so I still pretend that's what it is.

That jingle has more than paid for itself at this point. I don't think they've ever changed it and it's been running for at least 30 years.

Is that place any good btw? After all these years, you'd think I'd have tried it by now.
