I don't think he will go crazy or anything but our recent GM's have brought in guys they are comfortable with from their previous teams. Like Sutter with Kipper, Feaster with Blair Jones and Modin, then Burke with Colborne.

It's a regular occurrence for a GM to acquire players they are familiar with. Button brought in Turek, Sutter brought in a bunch of guys, Feaster brought in Modin and SOB, some will say Burke brought in Colborne.

You will find the same with any GM.

I don't think any of those guys were in the same class as talking about prospects like Gormley

Treliving if anything is going to be at a disadvantage there (if he wants to move for PHX prospects), Phoenix management is going to know which guys in the organization he likes best

I do agree that Gm's like to grab a former player or 2 in trade. That said while Murphy or Gormely would be great to get, more than likely it will be a 2nd/3rd tier prospect/player that Treliving would be able to get.

It's funny cause your name has Sven in it. Way to give up on him already.

I have to admit I don't know a lot about him, but after watching the press conferences I've warmed up to him.
Seems like a well-spoken guy and I liked his enthusiasm and what he had to say.
He certainly has a solid history, so hopefully the Flames have snagged one of the 'rising star' types for GM.
Here's hoping for great things in the near future under Treliving and Burke.

Trading Sven for Gormley isn't giving up on Sven. Gormley is one of the best young defencive prospects in the league, and you simply have to give to get. Sure, it would be great if we could just trade all our crap for other teams better players, but that simply isn't reality.

I voted 'yes' in the poll for the sole reason that Treliving's hire negates any possibility of Nonis or McPhee stepping into the GM role.

I'll reserve judgement on Treliving's ability when there's some actual progress or substance to draw conclusions from. I'm not about to sing praises of an individual who's entering his first ever GM role.

It'll be interesting to see his first acquisition, and I look forward to see what his fingerprint will look like on this team.

I'm just sick of so many trade proposals with Sven in them... last year people were saying Sven is nearly untouchable just like Monahan this season.

Oh agreed, I personally had a few over the top posts defending the guy in the backburner section about a month ago because I think he gets more critisism then he deserves. Still would trade him for Gormley though.

Don't worry. Next season, when Monahan eventually struggles, he'll be in all the trade proposals as well.

Just like Backlund before him. And Giordano before him.

Just so long as we are not too quick to pass judgement—good or bad—since it usually requires the space of several month and several transactions to get a good feel about any rookie GM's abilities. Yzerman blasted out of the gate with a bunch of amazing moves, and then followed those up with some that were not quite as good. I also think Bergevin didn't impress much in his first few months, but I have since liked a number of things that he has done.

Wouldn't he have the same knowledge against them though?

What kind of bush league podcast doesn't put their phones on vibrate and turn off their text message and email noises?

It is low end. But so was Fan960's interview with Traliving....especially the part where Pat asked "how excited are you to meet Bob Hartley?".
