I've been having trouble over the next few days deciding who's got the worst track record in Canadian Politics right now, Redford in Alberta, or Wynne in Ontario, they're both incompetent and both crooks, but Redford gets the edge on sheer darkside power.

Wouldn't it be grand to see Redford and Smith becoming the best of pals in the coming two years before the election to try to take down the AB PC?

If Redford goes rogue, it gives the PCs the opportunity to really distance themselves from her. "We're not like her".

Hey remember that whole "no show committees" thing from a few years ago? It's like a repeat performance.

Redford is the perfect example of why strategic voting is often a terrible idea.

Lol, well we avoided the Wildrose, so I respectfully disagree.
It was amusing to hear during the campaign about how strategic voting doesn't work though...until it did.

Yup they avoided Wildrose and put something far worse in place, and now your going to probably see a Wildrose government with a majority mandate.
I don't think the PC's can recover from this, the opposition is smelling a lot of blood in the water and I don't think Dave Hancock is going to handle the assault well. On top of that, the blood splashback from Redford's reign is going to soak the candidates running for the leadership.
Even though I don't really like him as our mayor all that much. The PC Party should be begging and pleading for him to run for the party leadership.

I might have already said this, but I think that the actual election is far closer than people think. By the time 2016 rolls around they have the enviable position of saying "we balanced the budget, didn't raise taxes and look at all the infrastructure we have going. These yahoos on this side wanted to raise taxes. These other yahoos wanted to slash everything. Instead we stuck with a prudent, measured approach and didn't panic."
Whether you like the PC's or don't, and I carry a card for another party, that's a really compelling message. If I were the PCs I would definitely be bring that message to bear as the election gets closer.

Yes, you should definitely be proud of the job Alison Redford has done for your vote. Such a fantastic representative for all Albertans.
Wildrose... boogy boogy.

It was a tough call. There were only a couple parties that could actually balance the budget based on their projections and forecasts last time around. I am not particularly enamoured with any of them, truth be told. Add to this that I'm socially really liberal and that took the Wildrose clear out of the running.

How long will the bad taste of Alison Redford last? I think the PC did absolutely the right thing of sagging her 2 years before the election. The incoming premier will have 18 months to make people forget about Alison Redford and to make WR look like a one trick Redford hating pony.
If Prentice decides to run, it's not over for the AB PC yet.

That's the funny thing about the PCs current predicament: It really isn't even remotely bad. Redford was horrible as the face of the PCs but by 2016 as Slava mentioned, they could have a balanced budget, no tax increases and strong infrastucture spending. The Wildrose can run on "The PCs are corrupt and entitled", but it won't really register as much as it would under poor economic conditions.
And lest we forget it's going to take exactly 1 video of a Wildrose candidate in 2016 saying gay people should burn in hell and the Wildrose is finished again. No more than 10 seats combined in Calgary and Edmonton if that happens (they have 2 currently), which of course leaves them without a prayer of winning. The Wildrose has the exact same, razor thin margin for error to winning in 2016 as they did in 2012. But no Redford to go after this time. If the PCs select a strong leader I don't like the Wildrose chances in 2016.

Except that they balanced the budget via a pretty confusing and bizarre two ledger system. One containing day to day, one containing all of the building and infrastructure stuff with loans and interests.
The budget isn't balanced, they just made the budget incredibly convoluted.
Look I'm not on anyones side in this race except against Redford and corruption. But for the PC's to sit back and say we have a balanced budget is a bit of a fabrication.

The AB Auditor general called out the budget basically being a FRAUD. We are $14B in the hole and we have a budget surplus. How dumb do you play me huh?

I still think the PCs are done during the next election unless they can secure a strong leader like Jim Prentice or Michelle Rempel. Most Albertans (and especially southern Albertans) are fiscally conservative and socially libertarian, which is exactly where the Wildrose have positioned themselves. Barring another bozo explosion by some loose cannon members, the Wildrose should have an easy path to victory.
It's really time for a change of government. The PC party has become a rudderless, corrupt organization that spends more time infighting than governing.

Indeed. The PCs claim they balanced the budget, but virtually nobody actually took them at their word. Everyone saw through the charade when it was presented, and it will not be difficult for the opposition parties to show how the debt has ballooned in the last several years.

I'm more opposed to the reality of rampant corruption and exploitation of public dollars myself. That's not to mention the mountains of debt and wasteful spending, but besides the point really when you look at Redford being forced to resign by her own party.
But I guess one religious guy's old blog post is pretty concerning too.

Which is exactly what they'll do, because all the Wildrose is sound bites of Danielle Smith et all attacking the PC party. They have no real plan combined with a backwoods social values mentality.

Thanks Ms. Redford. How long are you planning on collecting your paycheck while on extended vacation?
Clearly the PC plan is of top-notch variety!

Long enough so she can complete her second term and collect a gold plated pension. Gotta love those values the PC party holds

Provincial budget fails to meet accounting standards: Auditor general
Quote:
Merwan Saher reiterated his concerns that the budget is confusing for Albertans to understand and ranks only “second best” to the type of information they should be provided.
|
Quote:
“From my experience and just observing from the sidelines, a lot of time is spent interpreting the different formats ... time that could be spent actually debating the essence of the budget itself,” he said.
Saher has raised concerns about the budget presentation previously after opposition parties and taxpayer groups complained that the new format, introduced by Finance Minister Doug Horner last year, masked the size of deficits and failed to meet reporting criteria set out in legislation.
Former PC finance ministers Jim Dinning and Ted Morton have also levelled scathing criticism recently against the government for clouding the province’s finances with the controversial budget format.
Tory MLA Janice Sarich also raised concerns with finance officials Wednesday about the accounting practices.
