Honestly that is one of the two big arguments against anti-vaxxers.
|
Simple, because of herd immunity and to protect those who cannot have shots and are sick, old, have compromised immune systems, etc... That is the KEY point to vaccinations that anti vaxxers always seem to gloss over, we have to keep the vaccinations high in order to protect as many people as we can, once herd immunity drops below a certain rate, we see infections sky rocket as we are seeing now with measles outbreaks, whooping cough etc..

What is correctly being stated is that what people commonly associate the flu with (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc) isn't what is being vaccinated against. Influenza is a respiratory infection, what people think of when they think of the word flu is often times an infection brought on by a norovirus, which can be potentially dangerous, especially for an infant, but it isn't near as deadly as influenza.
People should be getting their damn influenza vaccination though and the fact that people don't makes this argument a little bit hypocritical in my opinion.

"I think it's a grey issue because it's an issue about children and about health and about parents' choices and that in this country, of course, we have the choice to vaccinate or not."

If they were science backed medical professionals they would have a policy that supported vaccination.

The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe
Indiegogo is promoting a fundraiser on their homepage for an anti-vax, anti-gmo and anti-big pharma film. Andrew Wakefield is listed as a supporter and participant in the film. The film maker says in the fundraisers write up that they are under attack just for asking questions. What do you think?

I don't think they vaccinate for polio anymore as it is considered eradicated in Canada...and I think that has been the case for some time. My children never were vaccinated for polio and they are in their 30's.

I just remembered, it was the vaccination against scarlet fever that my children never received but that I did. That is the one that leaves a little scar from a small blister that forms after the vaccination. I believe they consider scarlet fever eradicated around the world now.

Looks like Alberta is considering making vaccinations a requirement to attend school, just like Ontario and New Brunswick.

Oh I already got a couple biters with a few "gems" from that. Man the amount of anti-vaxxers in one place really depresses the #### out of me, especially the one guy who thinks Wakefield is an amazing guy

I love some of those comments

3) WHO stating that the H1N1 outbreak was a 'pandemic' and people need to get vaccinated BUT in reality the outbreak was far less than was seen for the common flu
|
So the WHO said get vaccinated to avoid a pandemic. We all got vaccinated and there was no pandemic. Therefore vaccines don't work.
The logic is so bad all I can do is laugh.
