Just found out a good friend of mine was one of the first responders to this incident, and he is pretty shaken up about it.

His wife says he just wants to be left alone for the next few days, so I figure posting a shout out to all of the first responders on this site is the next best thing. I want to thank them for what they do every day, and let them know that the whole city is with them right now during this very difficult time.

I don't have any funeral details yet but we're doing a parking lot memorial for him. If you want any information just PM me.

Seems like a lot of people wherever I look seem to have been friends or have had a connection with Lawrence. Amazing how he had touched so many lives in his short life, I hope he realized how big an influence it seems he was to so many people.

Not meant to be funny at all. I'm wondering if it could have been ties to some kind of pagan ritual.

This isn't a television show.

My deepest condolences to everyone who has lost a loved one. Such a tragic, needless loss. I don't know any of the victims but have mutual friends with just about all of them. Everyone is pretty shaken up

Tough situation for many the last two days.

I did not know any of the victims personally but also have mutual friends with pretty much all of the victims.

Condolences to all of the friends and family who lost a loved one in this tragic incident, nobody should ever have to go through what these families are going through right now.

I think the biggest thing is how close to home this hits for many of us in Calgary. As somebody who graduated from the UofC, attended all 4 BSDs during my time at the school, and attended many other house parties in the Brentwood area it just goes back to the feeling that it could have been any of us. I had friends and family who were out celebrating their own BSDs this year and any of them could have easily been involved as well.

I understand, but at times like this speculation like that is in poor taste purely because of how badly some people are affected.

This morning even I got a little torn up about it and I didn't know any of the victims and usually don't get upset about much. People tend to be understandably hypersensitive in moments like this. Maybe saving questions like these for a few weeks would be good.

Off topic, this is crazy, but true - Right Wing pastor blames "Blood Moon" on Obama:

I'll wait to hear what the motive/trigger for these killings was, but yes, its one of those things where I wonder how it could be just that this 22 year old could go to prison for a maximum of 25 years and be released at age 47 and then still live a somewhat fulfilling life. Add in parole and.... it just doesn't seem right.

How did he kill 5 people in a party and no one stopped him? Sure he had a knife, but you shouldn't die atm you should still be able to put up a fight I doubt anyone would die from a knife stab that fast you should still be able to fight back or yell from help and no one saw this or heard yells for help? There's like 20-30 at the time of the attack people didn't notice this? Anyways there's far more to this killing than meets the eye. There's no telling why he did this.

I'm a medic and I have seen some pretty messed up stuff in my day, but from what I have heard this scene would have been a complete blood-bath. It is so difficult to come into a situation like this when you are trained to help and save people and see something like this. I hope they counselling available for the first responders because this is something you would never forget and could be a major cause of PTSD for sure. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims familes and friends, as well as the family of the alleged perpetrator. They would also be going through there own personal hell right now.

I agree, hope the first responders are getting good treatment too.

I think the news said 3 were found dead at the scene and 2 died from their injuries on their way to the hospital, or shortly after they arrived.

With a party going, people may have been segregated throughout the house and outside. With maybe some music playing and alcohol involved, I can see how he could have gotten around to a bunch of people in a short timeframe.

Plus, you're at a house party having a great time among friends and your guard is totally down so the accused would totally have an advantage there if he wanted to sneak up on someone.

I'm sure when people realized what was going down they'd get out of there ASAP instead of try to fight a guy with a knife.
