You can't go wrong with the top 3 players. The only problem is that we are 4th... So we hope to win the lottery or to try and trade for the #1 or 2 spot.

Gotta give some props to the Islanders as well. They were down 2-0 today and could have totally given up, and left us in the fifth spot. Good on them for putting in an effort and not put any thought into tanking like the Canucks and Oilers have.

The top three you speak of is actually the top four... and honestly I might put Dal Colle to make it a top five if he played down the middle.

The Flames being at 4th isn't wrong by any means. I have a preference, Bennet.. but no matter who the Flames pick in this spot they're going to get a player.

I wouldn't be surprised if Burke trades down a spot or two if they do win it.

I would assume if Calgary leap frogs Edmonton, Ekblad will avoid wearing that Greasy jersey.

And what do you mean by that? All I am saying is the top three is Ekblad, Reinhart, and Bennett.

As long as we don't trade away our pick, we are going to get another great piece in this draft for the future. Exciting.

Will be interesting, becaus eI have a feeling that in that instance Burke is going to want Ekblad REALLY badly, and Button is going to want one of the Sam's REALLY badly. (Reinhart IMO)

I want a center if we pick first overall, but I won't cry for too long if they took Ekblad.

You're saying it's bad the Flames aren't drafting in the top three. You're forgetting the talented German who is also in that group.

Draisaitl, though apparently Burke disagrees.

Burke doesn't want any part in Draisaitl for some reason. I don't see any fault in picking him fourth, but Burke does. He'll go straight to Dal Colle at 4th if Ekblad, Reinhart, and Bennett are drafted.

From page 151 in Craig's list 2014 thread...

From the Brian Burke Lunch, he went through the top 10...here is what I got out of it:
Bennett - He loves him Competes, plays all 3 zones, tough, and sticks up for himself. Not afraid to drop the gloves.
Ekblad - I got the sense that if we won the lottery, he would be the pick. Burke said he builds from the line out, and he is a 25min guy. Mature, hard hitting. Said that his knock is that he wouldn't drop the gloves, but Burke said if you are hitting clean, you don't have to.
Reinhart - Tough player, high compete level, watched him tear apart the Hitmen.
Dal Colle - Big guy, skates well, uses his body. Reading between the lines, it sounded like Burke question's his 'compete'.
Draisatl - This is almost exactly what Burke said 'Draisatl is a big guy...I don't like him. lets move on.' Unless he is throwing out a smoke-screen, cross him off your wish list.
Ritchie - Carries about 10 lbs too much, but your prototypical power forward. Will be scoring goals in the pros for years! I am guessing if we land at 5, he will be our pick (based only on what Burke said today).

What I think MMF meant, which mirrors my belief, is that there is a plateau of 4 players then a drop before the next tier. Similar to last year with McKinnon, Jones, Drouin and Barkov then Monahan, Lindholm, Nurse and Nishushkin.

I think the top 4 is Ekblad, Bennett, Reinhart and Dal Colle with Draitsal being the top of the second tier (some might have Draitsal and Dal Colle flipped).

You ALWAYS draft the centre. Bennett/Reinhart + Monahan is high-end centre depth. You know what wins Stanley Cups? High-end centre depth. Period.

Draft the centre.

Hoping we don't trade down. From what I've been reading the top 5 picks are solid and just as good as any top 5 of an NHL draft... it's after there where the players are incredibly below average compared to their peers of other years. Losing today's game was huge because that ensures us we'll get one of those top 5 players

I definiely think FLA is a great trading partner for the Flames . If they had any chance to move up in the draft it will be with FLA. And I think it would be for Ekblad. otherwise I think the Flames will take their chances with whoever is left @4.

Edmonton's probably thinking the same thing.

Sure, okay.. but can anyone say without a doubt Reinhart is the best player available, can anyone say without worry Ekblad is the best player available? I'd say no, they can't.

When you have a bunch of ties you go with the superior more important position and I'd suggest in today's game that's the center ice position.

Flames could still draft Draisaitl, Burke gives his scouts final call.

IIRC in the past Ryan and Kadri were both situations where the scouts made the final call.
